I’ve been running controlled A/B tests on my tracking layer, and the friction differential between surfaces is messing with my calibration more than anyone gives credit for. On my current glass pad, the static-to-kinetic transition feels almost step-function-like compared to my Cordura—there’s a hard threshold where the pad suddenly “breaks loose,” and I can’t smoothly interpolate micro-corrections mid-swing. Is that jump in static friction a property of the glass micro-texture, or am I mostly seeing the PTFE skate compound cold-start behavior? I’ve measured glide consistency across a temp/humidity gradient, and the variance at 60%+ RH is brutal even on coated glass. How are the of you guys compensating for humidity degradation in your setups—do you trust desiccant seals, or have you found surface coatings that hold static friction coefficients within a couple percent across seasons?

Еще importantly, how much of this is actually modeled in-engine versus raw input? I’ve read that some title’s pointer smoothing applies its own velocity-dependent friction curve on top of the hardware signal, which would completely invalidate my bench numbers. Can anyone confirm whether the engine reads raw mouse delta or applies its own acceleration/friction layer? And what measurement setup are you all using to capture real coefficients of friction—optical tracker + force sensor, or software-side interpolation? I’m trying to build a repeatable benchmark that separates surface physics from engine post-processing, but I keep hitting walls on isolating the two variables.

The real differentiator between these surfaces comes down to the coefficient ratio between static and kinetic friction, not just raw “speed.” On glass, you’re getting an essentially uniform low

Here’s where the real difference between these surfaces comes down to the static-to-kinetic friction transition, not just raw speed. Cloth pads rely on their micro-weave fibers to generate higher static friction (μs) — you feel the “catch” when you break grip to start an acceleration, and that’s what gives control-oriented pads their predictable snap. The key is that for cloth,
