I’ve been chasing stable frame times in competitive shooters and keep hitting snags with how my dynamic resolution scaling interacts with TAA jitter. When DRS drops below ~85% scale during a spike in GPU load, I’m noticing the temporal jitter vectors seem to desync from the sub-pixel offset pattern, which reintroduces shimmer on fine geometry like weapon sights. Does anyone know if this is a known failure mode in the upscaler’s history buffer, or is my system failing to feed the temporal reprojection data fast enough? I’ve tried locking the jitter seed per-frame but that only masks it during static scenes.

My bigger concern is ghosting prevention when DRS scales up mid-fight. I’ve seen the spatial upscaler lag by one frame after a resolution jump, leaving residual artifacts behind fast-moving targets. How are you guys handling the bottleneck detection threshold to minimize this? Is there a reliable way to pre-warm the reprojection buffer before a scale event, or do most of you just disable DRS during actual gameplay and rely on manual tweaks? Curious what mitigation strategies are actually holding up in high-heat scenarios.

The core failure mode people miss is that DRS and TAA jitter are fighting over the same temporal budget. TAA’s whole value proposition depends on a reproducible

Here’s where the real problem lives: DRS and TAA are fundamentally at odds because TAA depends on a coherent temporal history buffer, and DRS actively destroys that coherence. When the driver rescales resolution mid-frame or between frames, the sub-pixel jitter pattern that TAA relies on for edge reconstruction gets misaligned against the accumulated history. You
