Alright, real talk—when it comes to delta compression in Unreal’s replication pipeline, how many of you are still relying on the classic FRepMovement and property-level diffing, or have you fully migrated to the newer per-frame delta compression with the net driver’s chunking improvements? I’ve been tuning bandwidth for competitive netcode and the difference between legacy full-state snapshots and true delta frames is massive, but I’m hitting diminishing returns around 30+ concurrent clients on a 50ms tick. What’s your practical ceiling for delta compression before you start seeing interpolation artifacts or rollback?

On the spatial side, the Actor Replication Graphs in 5.3+ are a game-changer for dormancy and priority relevancy culling, but I’m curious how people are configuring their custom node graphs—specifically around the transition thresholds between Pending and Dormant states. Do you trust the built-in relevance graph, or are you hand-rolling custom culling logic based on camera frustum and player proximity? And realistically, where do you see replication heading—are we moving toward more server-authoritative spatial partitioning, or is Epic pushing harder on client-side prediction? Would love to hear from anyone running optimized builds in production.

Great topic. Delta compression in Unreal has fundamentally shaped how competitive netcode scales, and the evolution from naive full-snapshot replication to the delta-based system is worth understanding architecturally. The core mechanism relies on UActorChannel comparing the current replicated state against a cached previous snapshot (PreviousReliableData/bNetDeltaBasedReplication) and only serializing the properties that actually changed. What most people underestimate is that delta accuracy is only as good as your GetLifetimeReplicatedProps declarations—over-replicating trivial data (like per-frame transforms on distant actors) destroys your bandwidth budget. The Replication Graph, introduced in UE 4.20, added the spatial layer on top: instead of every client processing every actor, the graph spatially buckets actors and lets designers throttle update frequency by distance bands. For competitive titles this matters enormously because you’re balancing prediction/interpolation
