I’ve been running A/B tests in FPS titles comparing binaural HRTF processing against virtualized 7.1 channels, and I want to understand the underlying mechanics rather than just subjective impressions. When binaural synthesis relies on head-related transfer functions to localize cues, how are you handling phase cancellation in the 2-5 kHz region where interaural time and level differences overlap? And for virtual 7.1, at what point does the artificial soundstage widening start degrading directional precision instead of enhancing it?

My concern is competitive edge specifically—footsteps, reloads, ability cues. Does the HRTF approach actually preserve sub-meter vertical localization, or does individualized vs. generic HRTF modeling create too much inconsistency across players? I’m also curious whether anyone has looked at the convolution latency tradeoffs when layering reverb models on top of binaural rendering. Are you seeing measurable localization errors above a certain sample rate, and do you trust the phase coherence enough to call shots under pressure? What’s your actual setup and which method gave you better target acquisition?

    "Greetings from Warsaw."
