The highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6 is looming, but a shadow hangs over it. A group of former Rockstar Games developers, reportedly fired for attempting to form a workplace union, are now directly addressing players and urging them not to boycott the game. Instead, they’re asking fans to support their legal battle against Rockstar by purchasing merchandise.

A Call for Support

In a recent video released by the IWGB (Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain), three of the over 30 former Rockstar staff members who were fired from Rockstar Games in 2025 due to their unionizing efforts spoke directly to players. They addressed the question that has been circulating since the news broke: Should fans boycott Grand Theft Auto 6?

“Don’t boycott GTA 6,” explained the former developers. “Win justice for the people who helped make it.”

“We spent years pouring our hard work, skill, and creativity into making GTA, and we want people to experience the universe that we helped build. That doesn’t mean we want you to let Rockstar off the hook,” they added.

The Union-Busting Accusation

Following the firings, the IWGB condemned Rockstar’s actions as “one of the most blatant and ruthless acts of union busting in the history of the games industry.” In November 2025, the group officially filed legal claims against Rockstar. Rockstar has claimed that the workers were fired for leaking info about GTA 6. A final trial to determine if the company broke the law is scheduled to begin in September.

Ahead of this crucial trial, the former developers are seeking support to take on Rockstar Games and its vast resources. “As a small, grassroots union with limited legal capacity taking on a multi-billion pound company, we’re not headed into this final round on an even footing,” they stated in their video.

“But we’ve got something they don’t: Workers and gamers around the world who believe in the right to organize, and are willing to stand with us to protect that right.”

How You Can Help

To support the group and their legal fight, they’re encouraging players to purchase T-shirts featuring the IWGB name and logo, along with a new design created by the former developers. The proceeds from these sales will directly fund the fired workers’ court case against Rockstar Games.

“So if you love GTA, but hate union-busting, don’t boycott the game; support our legal battle instead,” concluded the former developers.

GTA 6 is set to launch on November 19 on PS5 and Xbox. It promises to be one of the biggest video game releases in history, but this controversy adds a complex layer to its arrival.
