As reported by MMORPG.com, Square Enix has pushed Final Fantasy 14’s Evercold expansion to February 2, moving it back from its original January launch window. Preorders for the add-on open Wednesday, November 4, and those who preorder gain early access to the expansion on February 19.
The announcement came from Final Fantasy 14 executive Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida during the opening day of the game’s 2026 Fan Festival in Tokyo. According to Yoshi-P, the team remained committed to its January window and was “just barely” on track to hit that schedule, but quality concerns prompted the decision to grant three additional weeks of development time.
A single month is not enormous in the context of most game development today, but it carries considerable weight for the audience and the overall update cadence of a live service title like Final Fantasy 14. Evercold will be the first new expansion for the game since Dawntrail launched in July 2024.

From the outside, Final Fantasy 14 has come across to me as one of the higher-morale MMO communities around, though I was permanently scarred by peak pandemic Season of the Worthy in Destiny, so my standards may well be low. In her 2025 state of the game write-up at the start of the Dawntrail era, PC Gamer features producer Mollie Taylor noted that FF14 was in “a pretty weird spot.”
Mollie appears cautiously optimistic about Evercold’s promised changes, while a recent roguelike mode added to FF14 has news writer Harvey Randall excited for the upcoming expansion’s combat overhaul. Its new class also looks striking: a viking wielding two shields, laser cannons, and Wolverine-style claws.
