Top 25 PS5 games to play in 2026

    The Last of Us Complete

    Image via Naughty Dog.

The Last of Us Part 1 & 2 are perfect examples of PlayStation’s cinematic storytelling, which the company has doubled down on since the first game arrived in 2013.

While The Last of Us Part 1 highlights how a straightforward redemption journey of the father-daughter duo, Joel and Ellie, in a post-apocalyptic world can capture hearts primarily through its presentation and excellent voice acting and performance, the second game takes it a bit further, accentuating its storytelling with more violent and visceral gameplay sections that are unlike anything you can find elsewhere.

Best PS5 Game to Play in 2026

The Last of Us Complete combines the best-looking and best-playing versions of these games with DualSense features. Splitting open a Runner’s head with a bow or blasting a Clicker’s head with a shotgun has never felt more satisfying.

    Split Fiction

    Image via Hazelight.

Unlike Hazelight’s magnum opus, It Takes Two, Split Fiction is a two-player co-op action-adventure game suitable not just for couples, but friends, family, colleagues, and most importantly, rivals. It’s also Hazelight’s most visually stunning adventure, full of new-age sci-fi environments and purple-splashed whimsical landscapes that are a tad too beautiful to soak in.

On both PS5 and PS5 Pro, Split Fiction supports 3D audio with positional sounds, making environmental puzzles more immersive and engaging. On PS5 Pro, crisper visuals await, thanks to native 4K resolution support.

    Marvel Rivals

    Image via NetEase.

Exit Fortnite, enter Marvel Rivals. NetEase’s free-to-play title has garnered unprecedented support since its launch. The continuously evolving 6v6 hero shooter boasts over 1.58 million unique weekly players on PS5, the highest among all platforms.

Every season brings at least one new stylized Marvel hero to play as. So far, the devs have done a fine job of adding both popular and lesser-known characters to its ever-evolving roster. They are free to unlock, and their cosmetic bundles, most of which its fandom adores, are reasonably priced.

Marvel Rivals is PS5 Pro Enhanced, with 120 FPS support for better performance and Lumen reflections and global illumination for better lighting and fidelity.

    Onimusha: Way of the Sword

    Image via Capcom.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is arguably the best action game since 2019’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Capcom has been on a roll with releases like Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata. Onimusha is a class apart, thanks to jaw-dropping combat and facial animations that take center stage in its many boss encounters and exhilarating cutscenes. All of this, combined with vibrant characters, complements its picture-perfect melee combat.

On PS5 Pro, Onimusha: Way of the Sword utilizes PSSR upscaling to enhance dynamic resolution. It also includes enhanced reflections that aren’t available on the base PS5.

    Neverness to Everness

    Image via Hotta Studio.

Neverness to Everness is a vibrant, free-to-play open world with supernatural lore and fast-paced action combat. It’s a gacha game, and while that makes it a hard sell, NTE‘s gorgeous open world makes it worth checking out at least once.

On both PS5 and PS5 Pro, NTE supports ray tracing, making it one of the best-looking anime-style games on the platform.

    Horizon Forbidden West

    Image via Guerrilla Game.

No other open world features seamless large-scale battles while looking as gorgeous as Horizon Forbidden West. Aloy’s second adventure is a cross-generation title, but still looks way ahead of its time. While the story loses momentum in the second half, its gameplay remains engaging throughout, no matter how many times you take down robot dinosaurs.

Horizon Forbidden West is one of the earliest PS5 titles to take full advantage of DualSense’s controller. Players can feel the tension in the triggers upon drawing Aloy’s bowstrings. Subtle vibrations follow as she walks through tall grasses. Likewise, Haptics pick up on raindrops and other environmental effects.

On PS5 Pro, Horizon Forbidden West boasts sharper image quality thanks to Guerrilla’s own temporal upscaling solution. Unlike the base version, PS5 Pro quality mode targets 60 FPS.

    Helldivers 2

    Image via Arrowhead Game Studios.

Standing proudly on the rubble composed of everything from PlayStation’s failed live-service push is Arrowhead’s extraction shooter with over 20 million copies sold. Helldivers 2 is a diamond in the rough. It’s a premium multipemain game without relentless progression grind, permanent battle passes, and cosmetics that are unlocked with in-game currencies.

Even if we ignore its player-friendly progression, Helldivers 2 is a hilariously fun shooter to play. Jumping and dashing, shooting and smashing alien creatures, and playing alongside teammates always lead to silly, chaotic moments. Most importantly, without unnecessary grind, players can always hop back to aid the democracy.

Helldivers 2 has full DualSense integration, with each weapon being different to use, thanks to dynamic resistance feedback in the triggers. Furthermore, Haptics improve immersion for explosions, weather effects, and ground stomps. Another unique addition is the built-in microphone, which enables audio chat without an external headset.

On PS5 Pro, Helldivers 2 supports native 4K in Quality mode, creating sharper image quality. Sadly, it still doesn’t support 120 FPS.

God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok

Image via Sony Santa Monica Studios.

2018’s God of War and 2022’s God of War Ragnarok represent the best of everything the modern AAA PlayStation first-party studios have to offer. From visually spectacular cinematic battles to intricate writing and emotional storytelling, they have it all.

From a reserved Greek god-slayer-turned-father to an emotionally secure and responsible man-God, Kratos’ journey through the Norse realms alongside his son Atreus is a deeply emotional experience that most people can relate to.

Even on PS4, God of War‘s combat felt good to play, thanks to the weighty feel of the almighty Leviathan Axe. On PS5, that experience is even better, with Ragnarok‘s 120Hz support and every thump and slash of the Axe feeling like a cathartic release.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

    Image via Machine Game.

In a generation where new entries in the Uncharted and Tomb Raider franchises were notably missing, Indy swept in with a much-needed swashbuckling and treasure-hunting adventure. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a first-person action-adventure that makes it impossible not to feel like the Fedora-donning, whip-lashing archaeologist, and that’s no easy feat.

Between great puzzles and cinematic set pieces, the game lets players loose in gorgeous, painstakingly detailed historical places such as the Sistine Chapel and the Pyramids of Giza to explore and take in their crisp visuals.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is easily one of the best-looking AAA games this generation. On PS5, 3D audio makes it easier to pick up environmental cues during exploration and combat.

On PS5 Pro, it looks even better, with native 4K resolution and advanced ray tracing support for better picture quality.

    Resident Evil Requiem

    Image via Capcom.

Resident Evil Requiem is the best of both worlds, offering an intense survival horror experience through the lens of newcomer Grace Ashcroft, as she makes her way through the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center, and an action-packed second half with series veteran Leon Kennedy as he shoots and slams his way through the dusty streets of Raccoon City.

Like Resident Evil Village before it, Requiem supports all DualSense functionalities, including different trigger resistances for each weapon. Moreover, players can feel the weird sensation of a zombie grabbing Grace or Leon’s arm through Haptic feedback.

On PS5 Pro, Requiem supports native 4K at 60 FPS, while also offering a 120 FPS performance mode for VRR displays.

    Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

    Image via Sandfall Interactive.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is one of the most unique and fresh video game experiences of this console generation. It features a satisfying turn-based combat system with a surprising, real-time parry mechanic that completely alters the flow of battles.

Sandfall Interactive blends it with an emotionally enthralling story of grief and an Oprah-esque hauntingly beautiful soundtrack, creating an evocative experience that one shouldn’t miss.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is PS5 Pro enhanced, featuring standard benefits such as crisper image quality, consistent 60 FPS performance, and improved ray tracing. Both PS5 and PS5 Pro versions also support DualSense’s haptics.

    007 First Terang

    Image via IO Interactive.

IO Interactive’s 007 First Terang tells a James Bond origin story that feels both cinematic, with best-in-class visuals and performance, and gameplay-driven, with varied stealth missions and high-octane cinematic set pieces. Fans of both Hitman and the Uncharted series will find plenty to admire here.

First Terang is PS5 Pro enhanced and features crisper visuals backed up by ray-traced global illumination. Furthermore, quality mode targets 60 FPS.

    Ghost of Yotei

    Image via Sucker Punch.

Every first-party PS5 game boasts top-notch visuals and DualSense integration, but few do both so well that it becomes one of the main reasons to try that game. One such title is Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yotei.

Set in the sprawling lands of Ezo, amidst the stunning backdrop of modern-day Mount Fuji, Ghost of Yotei is a straightforward revenge tale. However, its beauty lies in its details, especially the way it utilizes the DualSense controller.

In camp, players must blow into the DualSense microphone to ignite fires, rotate the controller to hammer steel in the forge, and slide fingers on the touchpad to play Shamisen. These are just a few creative ways Ghost of Yotei uses DualSense on PS5, making it a must-play game on Sony’s system.

On the technical front, Ghost of Yotei uses PS5 Pro’s PSSR technology to produce better foliage and draw distance, alongside indirect lighting via enhanced ray tracing.

    Persona 5 Royal

    Image via Atlus.

While Clair Obscur is the more popular option in 2026, Persona 5 Royal popularized turn-based JRPGs back in 2020. Persona 5 Royal, a definitive and more universally praised version of P5, has a 120-hour campaign that is a perfect amalgamation of everything artistic – music, visuals, writing, storytelling, and gameplay.

Persona 5‘s story about seeking justice and standing up to a world corrupted by lost adults is full of heartfelt twists and turns, but what truly sets it apart is its multitude of diligently carved characters who become friends and family long before the story concludes.

In a world that’s consistently becoming lonelier to live in, a 100+ hour game with characters-turned friends is nothing short of a blessing in disguise.

    Elden Ring

    Image via FromSoftware.

Elden Ring is worth a trip simply for the grandeur and scale of the adventure it offers. Everything else – its flexible and no less excellent melee and ranged combat system, a massive open world unshackled by traditional design quirks, and melancholic imagery that accentuates its themes of suffering and oppression- is just icing on the cake.

While the PS5 version doesn’t offer anything different from other platforms, it’s worth playing just to appreciate FromSoftware’s rich fantasy world.

    Death Stranding 2

    Image via Kojima Productions.

Death Stranding 2 is a technical marvel on PS5, boasting photorealistic environments and lifelike character models. It’s not just a visual showcase, though, but a relaxing, introspective open world game unlike any other, with a better-paced story and more gameplay variety than its predecessor.

On both PS5 and PS5 Pro, Death Stranding 2 supports DualSense features such as Haptics and Adaptive Triggers. The latter is particularly effective here, as the L2 and R2 trigger resistances make carrying cargo more challenging and immersive.

On the graphics front, Death Stranding 2 on PS5 Pro features better image quality, while running at 60 FPS on both performance and quality modes.

    Astro Bot

    Image via Team ASOBI.

2024’s TGA winner, Astro Bot, isn’t just the best platformer on PS5; it’s also an unprecedented showcase of DualSense’s capabilities and a warm celebration of all things PlayStation. Its PlayStation-themed levels consistently amaze as you overcome obstacles and rescue endearing versions of the company’s many mascots over multiple generations.

For newcomers or returning PlayStation fans, Astro Bot is the definitive PS5 game to pick up. On PS5 Pro, Astro Bot has sharper image quality, backed up by the PSSR technology, and near-consistent 60 FPS, while retaining the excellent haptic feedback and adaptive triggers support found on the base PS5.

    Alan Wake 2

    Image via Remedy Entertainment

Remedy Entertainment’s 13-year-in-the-making, Fynchian horror-thriller sequel is a rare and remarkable artistic experience no other AAA studio has produced this generation. It is a perfect amalgamation of live-action, pop music, endless monologues, drop-dead gorgeous visuals, and two unique protagonists surviving horrors both fresh and familiar.

Wake’s writing can transform environments in real time, creating jaw-dropping surreal moments that are hard to recreate in other media. It helps that it’s easily one of the best-looking PS5 games, with a moody, tonally distinct atmosphere that complements both sides of the stories.

On both PS5 and PS5 Pro, Alan Wake 2 fully supports the DualSense controller. Rain splashes can be felt on different parts of the controller. Heavy weapons such as shotguns and crossbows are noticeably trickier to use with weighty trigger inputs.

Alan Wake 2 is also PS5 Pro enhanced, featuring ray-traced reflections and upscaled 4K resolution on both graphics modes, an ideal way to experience one of the best horror games on PS5.

    The Witcher 3 Remastered

One of the reasons The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has stood the test of time is due to its multitude of exceptionally well-written, branching side quests. But it’s not the only reason why it’s still worth playing in 2026.

The original is one of the best-looking open-world games of the last generation; its dynamic weather system still holds up pretty well. However, its newly released remaster amplifies everything for the better.

This includes technical improvements – enhanced graphics and better FPS- but also gameplay changes, including improved combat and a revamped skill tree.

The Witcher 3 Remastered PS5 Pro version even offers a 90 FPS mode on displays with VRR support. DualSense features such as haptics and adaptive triggers add an extra layer of immersion to combat and exploration.

    Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth takes everything that made the first game so incredible – memorable characters, a stellar hybrid combat system, and a breathtaking orchestral soundtrack – and throws it all into a massive open world beyond the city of Midgar.

With more playable characters in combat and diverse, highly engaging mini-games to spend countless hours in, Rebirth offers another high-quality Final Fantasy experience on PS5.

Unlike its predecessor, Final Fantasy Rebirth is PS5 Pro enhanced. In addition to regular improvements, it includes an exclusive Versatility mode targeting 60 FPS at a higher image quality.

Best multipemain and co-op PS5 games

    Fortnite

Fortnite is one of the most fun and easy-to-get-into battle royale games that, since its inception, has branched into a full-fledged hub for gaming and pop culture, as well as a creator platform.

With exciting new pop collaborations and gameplay tweaks every season, Fortnite remains a fresh, evolving game for players to dive into.

On PS5, especially with its DualSense integration and 120 FPS support on base PS5, it’s an easy choice for newcomers. On PS5 Pro, Fortnite supports Lumen Ray Tracing, making it visually a significantly better game than its PS4 counterpart.

    Destiny 2

PlayStation may have pulled the plug on Destiny 2, but it’s still one of the most polished and fun-to-play shooters on PS5. The Destiny 2 Collection includes all major expansions since Forsaken, alongside 10 Dungeon Keys.

While it’s not for everyone, players who can overcome its somewhat abysmal loot grind will find elaborate stories, lovable characters, high-octane firefights, and rich sci-fi worldbuilding that’s worth investing hundreds of hours into.

    Reanimal

Reanimal is a bizarre, co-op survival horror game unlike anything else on the market. It carries the DNA of Little Nightmares 1 & 2, but its atmosphere and storytelling are relatively darker.

Reanimal tells a story about an orphaned brother and sister navigating the eerie, rain-soaked environments of an island they once called home. The premise is exciting, with simple cat-and-mouse co-op gameplay.

However, it’s Tarsier Studio’s signature claustrophobic environments that carry the 4-6-hour adventure of these distraught siblings to its memorable conclusion.
