Fan Zelda Ocarina of Time Remake Canceled After Switch 2 Reveal

Nintendo has officially confirmed the long‑rumored remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, slated for release this year on the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

The news instantly reverberated through the community, as the fan‑made remake project that aimed to modernise the N64 classic was abruptly put on hold.

Independent developer CryZENx, who had been crafting an Unreal Engine 5 version of the game, declared that he would cease work on the unofficial recreation, though he has not removed the demos that were previously posted—those can still be downloaded from his website.

Although no formal communication from Nintendo has yet been received, the developer explained that the official remake’s arrival makes further investment in his project less meaningful; his fan remake had been in development for ten years.

Looking ahead, CryZENx has launched a poll to decide his next Unreal Engine 5 remake, with candidates ranging from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and The Minish Cap to Donkey Kong 64, MDK, Turok, and Sonic Adventure 2. Naturally, the majority of his followers are Zelda aficionados, and Twilight Princess currently tops the list with more than half of the votes.

In a striking parallel to the fate of the fan‑made Resident Evil 2 Reborn, a community‑crafted remake of the classic title was shelved once Capcom unveiled its official Resident Evil 2 Remake. Although the original project was abandoned, the creative team didn’t let their efforts go to waste; they re‑envisioned their work into a fresh survival‑horror experience titled Daymare: 1998.
