Archetype Entertainment unveils new gameplay and release details for Exodus.

Mass Effect enthusiasts and sci-fi RPG fans have reason to celebrate. Archetype Entertainment, the Austin-based studio founded by former BioWare veterans James Ohlen and Chad Robertson, has officially unveiled the long-awaited launch date for its ambitious third-person sci-fi role-playing game, Exodus, alongside an action-packed new trailer showcased during Gamescom Opening Night Live.

A Groundbreaking Sci-Fi Odyssey Driven by Time Dilation

In Exodus, humanity has fled a dying Earth and found refuge in a hostile galaxy ruled by the Celestials—ancient, hyper-evolved post-human adversaries. Players step into the role of the Jun (or Jun-compatible) Traveler, embarking on dangerous interstellar voyages across light-years to steal advanced alien technology and weapons crucial for humanity’s survival.

The core gameplay dynamic revolves around Einsteinian time dilation. While a Traveler’s mission to distant star systems may only feel like days or weeks to the player, decades pass for loved ones back on the home colony. The choices players make across generations will fundamentally alter civilization, companions’ fates, and planetary ecosystems.

Meet Salt: The Talking Octopus Mercenary Companion

The latest trailer also introduced one of the most intriguing companions revealed so far: Salt, an intelligent, mechanically augmented cephalopod mercenary. Capable of communicating through an advanced vocal synthesizer, Salt brings sharp tactical utility and unique bio-technological abilities into real-time squad combat.

Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey also lends his voice and likeness to an enigmatic key character who guides the Traveler through the existential weight of interstellar time travel and humanity’s fight against extinction.

Release Window and Platforms

Archetype Entertainment and publisher Wizards of the Coast confirmed that Exodus will launch globally across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Pre-orders are set to open soon, featuring exclusive in-game cosmetic sets, weapon blueprints, and early digital artbook access.
