Coin Crew Spill has announced that Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School will arrive on PlayStation 5 on November 5. The studio shared new details about the sequel, which expands the original game’s more linear narrative into a whole open-world campus.
The team says couch or online co-op play will be available from launch across the full campus, story, and puzzles. According to the developer, the experience is designed to feel like a place players can get lost in, filled with characters, quests, secrets, and reasons to explore between escapes—open to both returning players and newcomers alike.

The campus is divided into several distinct sections, each packed with quests and puzzles. In this update, Coin Crew Spill focused on two areas: the Headmaster’s Tower and the Humanities Campus.
The Headmaster’s Tower was one of the first spaces we worked on when designing the updated visuals in Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School and it inspired the most discussion about how to make a space feel truly “Academic” and further push the worldbuilding before expanding on each location’s unique identities.

The Headmaster’s Tower also led developers back to the Headmaster’s Office, the setting of the very first escape in the original Escape Academy. The studio used that location as a visual target while leveling up the art style for the sequel, aiming to push the Academy’s visual identity further while keeping it recognizable.

The Humanities Campus has seen the most deviation from the first game’s 2D map layout. Coin Crew Spill said designing the title to be more open-world involved significant iteration; at first things felt too open before they found new ways for players to engage, including interactable landmarks, side quests, and escapes.
Puzzles aren’t strictly limited to rooms anymore. This campus itself will reward you for staying curious.

Because part of the Humanities Campus had to be rebuilt after the first game’s story, developers expanded on the classical architecture inspiration from the original library design. Coin Crew Spill contrasted this cozier feel with the “rough and gritty industrial vibes” of the Science Campus and the colorful Arts Campus.
The Humanities Campus won’t be accessible immediately, but players will catch glimpses of it through a striking keyhole-shaped fountain visible across several campus sightseeing spots. The studio designed the campus itself to function as its own puzzle, hoping to create moments where players see something interesting before understanding how to reach it.
Coin Crew Spill also hid numerous keyhole embellishments throughout the Academy and invited players to find them all.
The team and I are thrilled to be bringing Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School back to PlayStation fans around the world when the game launches for PlayStation 5 on November 5.
