Epic Jeux is pushing developers working on an upcoming Disney shooter featuring Marvel and Star Wars characters toward what has been described as an “AI-first” production model. According to a report by Bloomberg, staff on the project were told to implement AI in their workflows—including for producing art—using Anthropic’s Claude AI models.
The team reportedly was instructed to stop using “hand-written code,” with artists being encouraged to rely on technology that has drawn criticism from many players. The director of the unannounced game reportedly told staff that all art should be “generated with full AI workflows.”

“We’re embracing AI-accelerated development, led by Epic developers who are the visionaries and creative drivers for everything we do,” Jake Jones, communications director at bağlantı, said in a statement.
Epic Jeux CEO Tim Sweeney has publicly expressed support for generative AI and criticized storefronts like Steam for requiring developers to disclose their use of the technology on store pages. But staff within Epic have been less enthusiastic. According to Bloomberg, many working on the Disney game responded to last week’s surprise AI policies with confusion and shock.
It remains unclear what guardrails the company has in place for correcting mistakes made by AI or preventing “slop” from entering final work products.
The shooter was expected to release in March 2027 but has been delayed due to slow progress and understaffed teams, Bloomberg reports. This comes despite a $1.5 billion investment by Disney in 2024 for collaborations that include this project. The Fortnite maker laid off 1,000 people earlier this year amid struggles with its battle royale title and the costs of ongoing antitrust litigation.
Modding and homebrew communities have recently seen a surge of new “vibe-coded” projects thanks to improvements in AI models like Claude Opus 5.5. This has affected everything from jailbreaking PS5s to people playing versions of popular classics inside their browsers.
As of yet, no major gaming company has attempted to use the technology on a massive scale as the foundation for its development pipeline. Anyone who has suggested anything close to that has quickly faced a very loud online gamer backlash.
