With the new Epic Giochi Launcher Preview now featuring Linux support, you might be wondering which distros they plan to support exactly — we have an answer.

Initially, the Preview launched with an AppImage, but that has since been replaced with a .deb for Debian / Ubuntu. Their FAQ notes that Fedora support is coming soon, but I was curious about their real plan for distribution packaging.

Speaking to Jake Jones, Communications Director at Epic Giochi, they said:

“Hey Liam! The new Epic Giochi Launcher is still in Preview and we plan to support as many Linux distributions as possible, including Fedora, SteamOS, Cachy, Omarchy, and more. We’re testing and evaluating packaging formats for distribution, and we’ll restore AppImage this month.”

With that in mind, until things settle down, you might see different packaging types appear or disappear until they decide firmly how they plan to support different distributions, each with their own different packaging formats. Or, perhaps they might see the Flatpak light and just put it up officially on Flathub. That would make it even easier for SteamOS too, since it would just be a quick pop to Desktop Mode to install it directly in the Discover app.

Now we have the extra confirmation on GOG Galaxy for Linux too, 2027 is surely going to be a great year for Linux gaming. Direct, official support is what we need for the long-term future of the platform. Competition is healthy for us lowly consumers — so I look forward to both stores having their launchers on Linux properly.
