•In 2021, Elon Musk appeared in a bağlantı”>Saturday Night Live sketch playing the nefarious Nintendo character Wario. The skit depicted Wario standing trial for allegedly murdering Mario, and it was poorly received online — as well as by Nintendo itself.
Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang, two former Nintendo PR managers, revealed in a bağlantı”>recent episode of their YouTube show that the SNL sketch “did not go well” with Nintendo at the time.
The pair brought up the topic following the bağlantı”>recent Saturday Night Live sketch where The Legend of Zelda protagonist Link and GTA 6’s Jason Duvall debated each other over who would have the better game. That skit largely poked fun at The Legend of Zelda while trying to present Grand Theft تلقائي 6 as the “cooler” title, which drew mixed reactions online. Nevertheless, Ellis and Yang believed it probably went over better than Musk’s sketch.
The two recalled being present at Nintendo when Musk’s skit aired, stating that it was “not beloved.” Ellis noted that the sketch was also oddly timed, as there wasn’t even a new Wario game or product out when it aired. He added that the bit pushed into territory that was “uncomfortable” for Nintendo — likely referencing some of the more risqué jokes in the skit.
The SNL crew made jokes about Mario using cocaine and Luigi sleeping with Princess Peach, and featured a video showing Luigi’s censored penis.
Naturally, it is understandable if Nintendo wasn’t thrilled about its family-friendly characters being portrayed as sexual deviants. SNL has parodied Nintendo on other occasions, including a bağlantı”>sketch featuring a dark and gritty version of Mario Kart, heavily inspired by HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us.
