Longtime dataminer Zullie the Witch has been hard at work dissecting the upcoming Tarnished Edition DLC, and she’s already unearthed some fascinating details about two brand new NPC invaders: Knight Leontiel and Noble Broken Mask.
A Familiar Face Returns
Knight Leontiel is a clear callback to Lucatiel of Mirrah from Dark Souls 2. She sports a stunning HD remaster of Lucatiel’s signature conquistador attire and wields a nimble greatsword. But the real kicker? Remove the helmet, and Leontiel practically is Lucatiel, complete with a burn mark over her left eye that mirrors the hollowing rot she suffered in Dark Souls 2. This is a truly heartwarming reunion for fans of the original character.
Unmasking Goldmask’s True Form?
Noble Broken Mask might just offer us our best look yet at what Goldmask, his base game counterpart and spiritual rival, is supposed to look like. While Goldmask’s model in the main game features a face, it always felt like a generic placeholder element. Broken Mask, on the other hand, boasts an austere, pinched face with striking pale gold eyes. As Zullie points out, he bears more than a passing resemblance to the typically obscured faces of “fingertree” enemies, hinting at a deeper connection.
Recreating History: Character Creation Insights
Zullie has also provided character creation slider information for both characters, allowing players to perfectly recreate either Leontiel or Broken Mask as their own Tarnished. This is consistent with FromSoftware’s design philosophy, where many NPCs are built using the same tools available to players.
