Disney+ has quietly revised its subscriber agreement to clarify that s may appear across every subscription tier on the streaming platform, effectively ending the promise of a completely ad-free experience for all users. The change came to light last week when the company emailed subscribers about modifications to its terms of service, revealing that even the most expensive plan is no longer guaranteed to be free of promotional content.

The update does not mean Disney will immediately begin inserting s throughout movies and shows on every tier. Instead, it loosens previous restrictions so that promotional material can appear before and after playback across all plans, including those previously marketed as ad-free. The revision represents a significant shift in how the streamer structures its service offerings.

A Quiet but Significant Change to Subscriber Terms

Subscribers first noticed the changes when Disney+ sent out emails detailing the updates last week. An email reviewed by IGN and addressed to UK subscribers clarified that all service plans can now include a range of promotional content before and after viewers stream movies and shows.

“Changes to your Disney+ Subscriber Agreement include, in summary, the following (though we do encourage you to read the new terms in full): We’ve clarified that all Service Plans may include: (i) promotional content, (ii) sponsorships, and (iii) s before/after playback of Content and in channels, live/as-live, special events, and any third-party services content.”

While the wording does not guarantee that ads will now be baked throughout all content, it seemingly loosens restrictions for promotional material even on the service’s most expensive tier. This is a quiet-but-major change, with previous standalone Disney+ plans broken up between two options.

What It Means for Each Subscription Tier

The Basic Disney+ tier, which costs $11.99 per month, did not and still does not allow for ad-free viewing. The Premium tier comes in at $18.99 per month or $189.99 per year. It still promises “no ads,” but based on the updated wording, it seems ads may appear before and after playback, just not during content.

Either way, the new subscriber agreement seemingly solidifies the end of a completely ad-free experience on the platform. Disney+’s Junior Mode appears to be the one exception. Profiles with the kid-friendly experience enabled will not be subjected to ads or promotional content.

How exactly today’s changes might affect the frequency of ads per tier remains unclear, and subscribers are encouraged to read the updated terms in full for complete details on what each plan now entails.

Looking Ahead

Disney+ implemented its latest price increases in October 2025. The company has not yet specified when or how heavily it will introduce s across tiers, leaving many questions about the frequency and placement of promotional content for users to answer.

For now, subscribers can review the full lineup of content made available on the streaming service for September 2026 here as they adjust to the new terms. Disney+ has not provided a specific timeline for rolling out ads or detailing how each tier will be affected going forward.
