In a bombshell announcement, publisher EA confirmed it’s closing the celebrated RPG developer BioWare amid an eye-watering 400-person layoff.

The studio’s next game, a fourth Mass Effect entry, has been cancelled as a result — but it seems we haven’t seen the last of the franchise just yet.
According to a new report from IGN, the Mass Effect TV adaptation is still in production and remains unaffected by BioWare’s closure.
The TV show has been in the works at Amazon MGM Studios since 2024; sources “inside Prime Video” have confirmed to IGN that work is still ongoing.
Once source told the publication that everybody involved in the show’s production is still onboard.
The Mass Effect TV show apparently shares much of its creative team with the Fallout show, which has been a big success for Amazon. Daniel Casey is a writer on the series, while showrunner duties belong to Doug Jung.
There’s no news regarding an expected release date for the TV adaptation, but with no official casting announcements or any significant updates in well over a year, I don’t expect it’ll be showing up soon.
