Electronic Arts is reviving its dormant sci-fi survival-horror franchise, if only for a few weeks of the calendar year. Following this week’s release of Battlefield 6‘s season 5 trailer, EA has teased an official return to Dead Space through a limited-time Halloween event that will drop menacing Markers and Isaac Clarke-inspired armor into the first-person shooter. Season 5 launches Oct. 13 on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, bringing with it new maps, weapons, vehicles, and what appears to be the most substantial crossover between the two EA brands yet.
The reveal lands despite a complicated history for both franchises. The critically acclaimed Dead Space remake arrived in 2023 as one of the year’s strongest horror offerings, even earning recognition as a game-of-the-year contender, but lackluster sales ultimately kept the franchise on ice. EA has not announced any new mainline Dead Space project since, yet it is clearly still invested in the IP — now channeled through its best-selling shooter.
A Season 5 Trailer Packed with Surprises
The season 5 trailer is ostensibly about the game’s new maps, which include a highly destructible Las Vegas Strip and Area 51. The expected chaos and destruction of a Battlefield 6 trailer is on full display, as are teasers for what’s coming in season 5: six new weapons, two new vehicles, and a new free-to-play, faster-paced Battle Royale mode known as Rapid Royale.
It is the final shot of the trailer that will give starving Dead Space fans a morsel of hope. In it, we see two soldiers wearing Isaac Clarke-inspired armor with a menacing double-helix Marker looming behind them. EA teases that the mode is part of a sinister, limited-time Halloween event — one dataminers had already begun dissecting before the trailer even aired.
Datamined Details Reveal a PvE Rush Mode
Hardcore Battlefield fans may already know what to expect, thanks to month-old leaks about the Dead Space-inspired mode. According to those details, the limited-time event will send players to Area 51 for a PvE Rush-style experience. Rush, also known as Gold Rush, has been a fixture in many Battlefield games since the original Bad Company. The mode typically involves two teams — Attackers and Defenders — trying to destroy or protect specific locations.

The Dead Space version of that format will supposedly see players fighting waves of “Marked Soldiers” as they attempt to destroy Marker Shrines, with a special event weapon available as a Battle Pickup. Players have also datamined two RIG suit skins inspired by Isaac Clarke’s armor, along with a trio of weapons that draw inspiration from the horror series.
This is not the first time Battlefield has acknowledged Dead Space. Previous releases, including Battlefield 6‘s predecessor Battlefield 2042 and Battlefield Hardline, have featured game modes and Easter eggs based on the sci-fi series. This time, however, there are much closer ties between the two brands. In 2024, Electronic Arts tasked the Dead Space remake team at Motive with aiding in development of the latest Battlefield, forging a creative bridge that may explain this season’s crossover.
Looking Ahead
Battlefield 6 is available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X — platforms that also host 2023’s Dead Space. Season 5 of Battlefield 6 kicks off on Oct. 13, at which point players can experience the crossover content firsthand before it presumably retires with the end of the Halloween event.
Whether this limited-time nod signals a fuller resurrection of the Dead Space franchise remains to be seen. For now, though, EA has made clear that Isaac Clarke’s universe is not entirely gone — just waiting for the right moment to return from the shadows, one Marker at a time.
