Time to Relax: The “Better Story Timer” Mod
Why the hurry? The original game features a 30-day timer for completing the main quest. This new mod, cleverly named Better Story Timer, extends that window to a more leisurely 90 days! That’s triple the time to explore Vale Sangora, dispatch bandits, and generally enjoy the RPG experience.
As I mentioned in my own Blood of Dawnwalker review, the original timer wasn’t unbearable. I managed to reach multiple endgame scenarios with plenty of days to spare. However, that was under the pressure of a review deadline, pushing me towards the main objectives. If even the possibility of feeling rushed bothers you, this mod is a godsend.
More Than Just Time: Perk Point Perks
The “Better Story Timer” mod also includes an optional file that eliminates any time cost associated with applying perk points earned through leveling up. This saves valuable time segments whenever you visit a shrine to improve your skills or unlock new abilities. The exact amount of time saved depends on the number of unspent points, but it’s generally a small price to pay for enhanced character progression.
A Word of Caution: Day and Night Cycle
The mod creator, Caites, has also developed a file that aims to stretch out the game’s eight-segment days and nights to a whopping 32 segments. While ambitious, this aspect hasn’t been fully tested and might introduce unforeseen issues. Fortunately, the core 90-day boost can be easily tweaked within the game’s INI file for those comfortable with such modifications.
Proceed With Caution
As with any mod that alters a fundamental game mechanic, there’s always a risk of encountering unforeseen problems. It’s highly recommended to experience the vanilla timer first to determine if Dawnwalker’s default pace is truly not for you.
