A dataminer has reportedly uncovered a scrapped, half-finished cutscene buried in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, with the appearance of a character named Miko suggesting it could have served as a teaser for an Assassin’s Creed III prequel.

The unused cutscene was discovered by Sliderv2 and features Edward Kenway walking into a bar to converse with Miko. According to the report, Miko is the co-founder of the British Brotherhood of Assassins, which primarily appeared in Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate. After stating that he “put out a call to the wider Brotherhood,” the scene then cuts to Adéwalé.

The video could not currently be watched for yourself, as Ubisoft allegedly issued a copyright strike against it. The scrapped cutscene in question was uncovered by Sliderv2, who posted about it on October 12, 2026.

While the appearance of Adéwalé might suggest something related to Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry, which was originally included in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’s season pass in 2013, users on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit pointed out an interesting discrepancy in the unused cutscene’s dialogue. Coincidentally, that thread was “removed by Reddit’s filters” at the same time as Sliderv2’s video was hit by Ubisoft.

The cutscene opens with Miko telling Edward that “The king is dead.” Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced ends in 1722, and Freedom Cry begins in 1735–the same year that Edward canonically dies. This means the only “King” Miko could be referring to here is George I of Great Britain, who died in 1727.

The reason this might imply Ubisoft is planning some sort of Assassin’s Creed III prequel relates to Haytham Kenway, Assassin’s Creed III’s antagonist and the son of Edward Kenway, who was born in 1725.

Cut AC Black Flag Resynced Scene Seems To Tease AC III DLC

The only details available about Edward’s life during this 1725-to-1735 period come from the book Assassin’s Creed: Forsaken, which is an in-universe diary of Haytham’s life, and it barely covers the decade between Haytham’s birth and Edward’s death. This means it’s free real estate as far as the Assassin’s Creed canon is concerned. There’s also another wrinkle that ties this altogether: Haytham personally assassinates Miko during Assassin’s Creed III’s prologue.

As much as this all slots together very neatly, Ubisoft must have cut this for a good reason. As far as the report can tell, this cutscene wasn’t present in the files for the original 2013 release of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, which would mean it was created specifically for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced—only to ultimately end up being scrapped anyway.

Maybe that implies Ubisoft has altered its plans entirely, or maybe it means this placeholder cutscene was created as a teaser for a future Assassin’s Creed project. Perhaps this cutscene was created early, as Ubisoft had Edward’s voice actor, Matt Ryan, back to record dialogue for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. This is just a theory on the author’s part, but perhaps we’ll see the finished cutscene in a Resynced version of Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry somewhere down the line.
