Cyberpunk 2077’s Edgerunners 2 Update Adds Two New Quests, Handgun Dual-Wielding and the Ability to Customize Your Mantis Blades

A beefy new Cyberpunk 2077 update arrives tomorrow, October 22nd, fresh on the heels of the second series of the Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime which dropped earlier this week. It’s dubbed update 2.5 and delivers an Edgerunners 2-themed quest alongside a heap of other additions.

As outlined in the patch’s notes, CD Projekt Red and co-devs Virtuos simply aren’t capable of delivering a Cyberpunk update that only adds a couple of little things. They either go hard or they go home, so there’s a full-blown Edgerunners 2 prequel quest called Clampdown that offers gear from the anime, plus a new radio station featuring tracks from both Edgerunners 1 and 2.

There’s also a new quest not linked specifically to the anime. Dubbed Welcome to Paradise, it has you run around learning about Night City’s past and lore via projected lectures from the metropolis’ founder Richard Night, with some sort of mystery in need of solving along the way. Honestly, as someone who loves just going for a wander or drive around the place when I hop into Cyberpunk, that might be the bit of this patch I’m most excited about.

That’s far from it. Taking a new perk called Double Trouble will allow you to dual wield pistols and revolvers. It’s a feature that’s limited to power handguns, so there’ll be no equipping twin katanas or finding a way to graft two assault rifles to your arms. That’d have been a bit too overpowered to live in the game without a tonne of effort on the devs’ part to somehow balance the double damage it’d offer, according to CD Projekt Red’s Paweł Sasko.

Another addition’s something you’ll be able to make use of regardless of which weapons you specialise in, assuming you’re not a plain jane with no tech jammed into your skin. Hand cyberware can now be visually customised at five new vendors called glamdocs. From the looks of it, they’re ripperdocs who specialise in making the likes of gorilla arms and projectile launchers look funky rather than installing the baseline version of the tech. So, you’ll still need to visit ripperdocs as usual, with the glamdocs just offering a total of 40 alternative looks for cyberware that allow it to resemble the variants worn by folks from various corps and gangs across Night City. There’s also some colour customisation to further the personal flavour you can add to, say, a pair of Arasaka-themed manis blades.

Cross-platform modding support is also arriving, which is bigger news for console players than it is us PC folks, though it’ll make it easier to mod up the game if you’re not down for hours of scrolling through the Nexus.

That’s not every last thing included in the update, so make sure to check out the full notes of you’re keen to be abreast of everything arriving when it drops tomorrow. Will this actually end up being the final update for game CD Projekt Red have given the appearance of trying to wean themselves off adding to for years at this point? Probably not. I’m certainly not complaining.
