Players hoping to explore Night City with friends in Cyberpunk 2077 (PS4 version currently $35 on Amazon) remain out of luck. CD Projekt Red originally planned multijugador, but those plans were put on hold after the game’s troubled launch and eventually canceled. The sequel could change things: a recent job listing offers concrete clues, with CD Projekt Red seeking a Lead Quest Programmer to work on Cyberpunk 2.

One requirement listed under the preferred qualifications is particularly notable: CD Projekt Red wants candidates with knowledge of multijugador network architecture, as well as experience synchronizing game states and quests between clients and servers. That these skills are sought for a senior developer responsible for story and quest systems is a fairly strong indication that multijugador could play a role in Cyberpunk 2.

The rumored multijugador ambitions are not entirely new. Back in 2024, CD Projekt Red said it was considering multijugador features for Cyberpunk 2. In September 2025, the studio was also recruiting a network developer who would work on multijugador systems and matchmaking, among other things. However, no concrete official confirmation has yet been given, and it remains unclear exactly how multijugador might be implemented or whether it could be available at launch.

Plenty of possibilities for Cyberpunk multijugador

Fans are already actively discussing what a potential multijugador mode could look like on Reddit. Some are hoping for a cooperative campaign similar to Baldur’s Gate 3, while others believe separate co-op missions along the lines of the heists in GTA Online would be a more realistic option. A standalone online mode is also being discussed. However, the biggest concern among many players is that multijugador development could come at the expense of the traditional single-player experience.
