•As development on Cyberpunk 2 continues, game director Gabe Amatangelo has shared new thoughts on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel and how his plans have evolved as CD Projekt Red assigns more people to its creation.
In a blog post, Amatangelo discussed what the theme of cyberpunk means to him, saying he wanted to explore ideas of dehumanization. With more people now working on the project, he explained that it is becoming a “reflection” of those involved as they contribute their own ideas.
“I had the idea of Cyberpunk 2 in the beginning, but it evolves as I involve more people.”

Amatangelo added that video games have been a major influence in his life and he hopes they will continue to impact players. “Video games impacted my life. They opened my mind, and got me motivated and excited. And I want to make sure that doesn’t go away for this generation or the next,” he concluded.
There is no indication of when Cyberpunk 2 will be released, but it is one of several major projects in development at CD Projekt Red. The company has plans to release an entire trilogy of Witcher games within a six-year period, starting with The Witcher 4.
The studio also hopes to avoid repeating the infamous Cyberpunk 2077 launch debacle, when the game arrived in a broken, buggy state that took many months to fix. While the game improved significantly over those months—receiving substantial free post-launch support and a critically acclaimed Phantom Liberty expansion—the troubled launch still did major reputational damage to CD Projekt Red.
Cyberpunk 2077 continues to be a best-seller, especially when it gets a big discount, with interest likely to spike again following the October 20 launch of season two of the spin-off anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Paramount has also announced that it is making a Cyberpunk 2077 movie.
