Remedy Entertainment’s Control Resonant has earned its place as one of the most technically accomplished releases of the year, delivering stunning visuals alongside remarkably efficient performance across a wide spectrum of hardware. From high-end desktop systems equipped with ray tracing to handheld gaming PCs, the game runs smoothly on nearly every machine tested so far, cementing itself as a benchmark for PC optimization in modern gaming.

The title follows in the footsteps of its 2019 predecessor, Control, which helped popularize advanced lighting techniques among mainstream audiences. Where that original game first convinced skeptics of ray tracing’s potential through its distinctive visual identity, Resonant pushes those same principles further while maintaining a level of accessibility that few visually ambitious titles manage to achieve.

A Visual Masterpiece That Scales Gracefully

Remedy has built a reputation for technical excellence in recent years, with Alan Wake 2 standing as one of the most beautiful games ever created. Yet even that acclaimed title was never known for running well on less powerful hardware. Control Resonant takes a different approach, dialing back some of the ultra-realism found in its predecessor while scaling far more effectively across varying specifications.

The game rewards high-end PCs with a stunning path tracing implementation that accentuates its distinctive art direction. But perhaps most impressively, it maintains strong visual fidelity even on handheld devices where players might expect significant compromises. This balance between aesthetic ambition and performance efficiency represents the kind of engineering excellence that separates truly polished ports from mere afterthoughts.

“Control Resonant is still one of the best optimized PC games of the year so far, and even runs reasonably well on the Xbox Ally X.”

Handheld Performance Surprises

The real test of any portable gaming experience comes when players expect trouble. After dealing with poorly optimized titles like Halo: Campaign Evolved and Star Wars Zero Company, expectations for Control Resonant on the Xbox Ally X were deliberately low. The results told a different story entirely.

When running on the handheld with its dedicated graphics preset and FSR set to quality mode, the game maintained excellent visuals at 1080p resolution while delivering 40-45 frames per second during intense boss encounters filled with flying debris. While occasional drops into the mid-30s occur, performance remains smooth enough that gameplay experience suffers minimally.

The addition of FSR frame generation provides additional headroom, allowing players to achieve simulated 60+ fps output despite a modest latency tradeoff. This flexibility proves invaluable for handheld gaming, where battery life and thermal constraints demand creative solutions to maintain playable performance.

Desktop Systems Excel

Players with more powerful desktop hardware will find Control Resonant running exceptionally well across its full range of graphical settings. Remedy’s official system requirements list the RTX 4070 Ti as the recommended GPU for medium presets with ray tracing, targeting 60 fps output. Testing suggests these numbers may actually undersell the game’s true capabilities.

During evaluation using an RTX 4070 Ti Super at 1440p resolution with medium settings and DLSS balanced mode, the game averaged 111 fps with a 1% low of 81 fps. This performance significantly exceeds Remedy’s quoted expectations for those same settings. Even accounting for the approximately 10-15% performance advantage the Super variant holds over the standard 4070 Ti, players could still expect around 94 fps average output.

The game offers substantial room to increase detail levels without sacrificing playability. Pushing everything to Ultra settings with path tracing at 1440p yielded an impressive 70 fps average with a 58 fps 1% low, even before enabling frame generation. This headroom demonstrates the title’s efficient code architecture and thoughtful resource management.

Looking Ahead

The combination of exceptional visual quality and outstanding performance optimization makes Control Resonant one of the strongest PC ports available this year. The game scales beautifully across hardware tiers while maintaining its distinctive artistic vision, proving that graphical ambition and technical efficiency need not be mutually exclusive.

For players considering a purchase, the title runs comfortably on virtually any reasonably capable gaming setup. Those planning to experience Resonant will find it readily available on Steam, where the combination of stunning visuals and smooth performance makes for an easy recommendation across the board.
