Control Resonant has sold one million copies, making it Remedy’s fastest-selling game despite leakers revealing its title and pirating the game after its digital launch in September.

According to a report by Virginia for IGN, Remedy celebrated the milestone on October 15 via Twitter/X: “Thank you for the support. For playing, sharing, and being a part of the community.” The studio’s communications director Thomas Puha added his own reaction: “There we go. Strong start.”

The achievement means Control Resonant has surpassed Alan Wake 2, which previously held the record for the studio’s fastest-selling title. That legacy sequel reached one million copies sold two months after its release; Control Resonant hit that figure in just three weeks.

This is welcome news for both Remedy and fans of the game, many of whom urged players against downloading the pirated version when it launched digitally in late September. It appears this wasn’t a crippling setback for the developer given its current financial success — physical editions of the game have also just been released.

Control Resonant was met with critical acclaim among both reviewers and players alike. IGN scored it an eight out of 10, with reviewer Michael Higham saying: “Even when combat’s sharp edge eventually dulls, Control Resonant is a great addition to the Remedyverse. While its story follows a more standard framework, its gravitational pull is in the inventive world built around it and the humanization that grounds the paranatural intrigue.”

In fact, the game was so well-received that many internet pirates decided against illegally downloading it, choosing instead to support Remedy in hopes that its success would help keep the studio alive.

“One of the very few games I’m going to be buying, Remedy are on the brink of bankruptcy, this is their make or break title, I love their games and gotta do what I can to keep them afloat.”

“I wasn’t planning to buy it but now I feel like I should. I like Remedy. They do good games.”

Remedy is known for titles like the original Control game, Alan Wake 2, Max Payne, and Quantum Break. While their offerings have been met with high praise from players, they aren’t necessarily tailored for mass appeal, leaving some gamers worried about the developer’s future — but if these latest figures are anything to go by, it seems to be faring just fine.
