He began a rigorous training regimen to achieve the physique necessary to embody Kratos, even memorizing lines for the series. “We had talked, and I thought, ‘God, what a great legacy to leave for my grandson,'” he explained. However, the demands of the role ultimately proved too much.

Judge admitted that the sheer volume of work required – long hours, constant dieting, and intense workouts – was something he wasn’s willing to commit to at this stage in his career. He recalled his previous experience as a lead actor on “Stargate,” noting that returning to such a demanding schedule after so many years felt unsustainable.

Passing the Torch: Bautista Takes Over

While disappointed to step away, Judge expressed genuine excitement about Dave Bautista taking over the role. He even voiced concern about Bautista’s health, given the actor’s recent weight loss journey. “I just hope it doesn’t cause any health issues to put back on all that weight,” he said.

Judge also shared his initial reaction to Ryan Hurst being cast before his injury. He believed Hurst was a perfect fit due to his gaming background and status as a new father. When Hurst had to withdraw, Judge hoped the production would take its time finding the right replacement, leading him to Bautista’s casting.
