Charlie Cox arrived at New York Comic Con on Sunday jetlagged from Dublin, but he was hardly too tired to talk about his most iconic role. Appearing on stage for the Marvel Television panel, the actor confirmed that Daredevil is finally reuniting with his long-lost Defenders teammates in Season 3 of Disney+ series Born Again — and playfully urged fans to keep fighting if they want him as Matt Murdock beyond a season already confirmed to be the show’s final chapter.
Cox, who has redefined Marvel’s horned vigilante for a new generation alongside Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, spoke with IGN after the panel about bringing back the street-level heroes and why he believes the story needed “a full circle.” The answer to whether Cox will ever again don the horns may ultimately rest in the hands of the fandom.
The Defenders Are Finally Reuniting
The reunion is a long time coming. The Defenders originated during Netflix’s Marvel era, when each character — Daredevil, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) — headlined their own series before teaming up for the 2017 limited season titled Defenders. Those shows were eventually cancelled, but once Cox and D’Onofrio entered the proper Marvel Cinematic Universe, a reunion of the street-level heroes seemed inevitable.

“I think there needed to be a full circle with that story,” Cox told IGN’s Jeffrey Vega. “There needed to be some kind of closure with it.” He described the return of the quartet as an unalloyed joy for the cast, who remain close outside of work.
“And Marvel were willing and able to bring them back and have a lot of fun with it. It was great. We’re such good friends. We have a great time together. There’s some really interesting, fun dynamics that the fans seem to love, so it was great.”

Cox also joked about one particular on-set hazard: Mike Colter’s habit of leaking plot details. The reference pointed back to Colter putting certain information on social media earlier this year that he perhaps shouldn’t have — a move so dangerous, according to Cox, that the crew “had to ban him from getting sides on set.”
A Final Season — But Not Necessarily the End of Daredevil
Born Again has been confirmed to conclude with its third season, raising a natural question: does that mean we’ve heard Charlie Cox’s final word as the Devil Without a Heart? The actor declined to rule it out, instead deflecting responsibility onto the fans.
“Don’t know, man. I don’t know. I mean, it might be. It might be. Don’t worry about Kevin [Feige]. Get the Save Daredevil campaign on the horn. Get them motivated. That engine, that won’t stop until there’s some resolution. That’s my true superpower — is the Save Daredevil campaign!”
Charlie Cox
The remark landed warmly with attendees and online followers alike, many of whom celebrated the reunion on stage as a landmark moment for Marvel’s street-level corner of the franchise. The playful call to action also revived longtime fan campaigns that have long pushed for more Daredevil content, giving the movement a high-profile cheerleader at one of the year’s biggest conventions.
Looking Ahead
Born Again Season 3 remains the final season of the Disney+ series, though Cox left open the possibility that his run as Matt Murdock could extend beyond it — should fans keep their campaign alive. Marvel Studios has not yet announced a specific release date for the concluding season, and details about the show’s future remain tightly held.
Until then, the actor suggests the power to shape Daredevil’s fate lies with those who love him most. As Cox put it, that fan-driven “engine” is one that simply won’t stop until there is a resolution — whether or not Marvel Studios has yet decided to answer it.
