Fans of the upcoming Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse have unearthed a secret weapon in the game’s demo that quietly pays homage to some of fighting gaming’s most iconic characters, offering fresh evidence of the franchise’s enduring affection for the genre. The discovery arrived shortly after Konami released a free playable demo on October 1, 2026, giving players their first taste of the action ahead.

In Belmont’s Curse, gamers take control of Rose Belmont, who navigates the ruined streets of sixteenth-century Paris armed with a sword and her mother’s magical tarot cards. The demo, which grants access to a wealth of secret areas for devoted Metroidvania enthusiasts, hides one particularly notable location that rewards explorers with a pair of brass knuckle-style MMA gloves known as the Cestus.

A Weapon That Rewards Aggression

The Cestus functions differently from most armaments in the game, stacking additional damage onto enemies the more frequently players land blows. This design encourages an aggressive, up-close playstyle that keeps opponents on the back foot. But it is not merely the weapon’s mechanics that have captured attention; it is what Rose does once she finishes a combo.

After completing an attack sequence with the Cestus, Belmont strikes a victory pose for several seconds. These poses appear to cycle seemingly at random, though each features a distinct animation and clear intentionality. Players quickly noticed that the stances bore remarkable resemblance to the idle fighting poses of classic arcade fighters.

Fighting Game Icons Revealed

Twitter/X user and Castlevania enthusiast StockeTepes compiled the observations into a video, demonstrating how Rose settles into idle poses mirroring those of Ryu, Chun-Li, Oro, and Sagat from Street Fighter, alongside Mai Shiranui and Akuma or Oni from The King of Fighters. The collection even includes Spider-Man’s signature stance from Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

I told you, Castlevania LOVES fighting games 🔥 And the tradition of calling back to them continues with Belmont’s Curse! So I made a lil edit showcasing how the Demo’s secret weapon, Cestus, homages idle poses for many of it’s iconic characters. MUCH more coming stay tuned 😈

Other keen-eyed observers pointed out that Rose’s air-to-air combo with the Cestus closely mimics Akuma’s in-the-air fireball technique, Zanku Hadouken – or, depending on one’s perspective, a nod to M. Bison’s Hell Attack.

A Longstanding Franchise Tradition

The fighting game tributes are by no means new to Castlevania. Players familiar with Symphony of the Night will recall that the inputs for Alucard’s purchasable spells mirror exactly the motion commands used for special moves in a fighting game, while the gauntlet-style weapon Fist of Tulkas lets players hurl a Hadouken-like projectile. Portrait of Ruin similarly unlocked Martial Arts techniques granting special abilities behind fighting-game-style input sequences.

The relationship ran so deep that Konami itself released Castlevania Judgment in 2
