According to a report by S.E. Doster, a GameSpot contributor, the campaign in Modern Warfare 4 is now playable in early access ahead of the full game’s October 23 launch, and it runs roughly eight hours on normal difficulty — longer than recent entries in the series. The single-player experience concludes Infinity Ward’s rebooted Modern Warfare saga.

Recent Call of Duty campaigns have averaged around five to six hours, but Modern Warfare 4’s story is lengthier. Players may need more time for higher difficulties or achievement hunting, and one open-world mission titled “Stranded” offers optional exploration. The campaign contains 16 missions in total, each unlocking a reward that mixes cosmetic items with double XP tokens usable in MW4.
Campaign rewards across all 16 missions
Across the campaign, players unlock eight operators: Cho (Mayhem), Dallas (Hired Gun), Luca (Traffic), Oh-ji (Assassins), Kal (Stranded), Dunn (Counter Attack), West (Entrenched) and Park (Greater Good).
Additional rewards include the “No Mai mult Rules” calling card from Out in the Cold, the “Ready Live” loading screen from Losing Ground and the “Gone Întunecat” emblem from Gone Întunecat. Double XP tokens are awarded for Following Orders, Survivors and Decapitation, while Defection and Escape grant double weapon XP tokens.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2.
