Calibre has just unveiled its latest iteration, version 9.9, now available for download across all major platforms. This release brings a host of refinements aimed at enhancing the reading and library management experience for both casual users and power librarians.

One of the standout additions is a new setting that preserves your current search query when you switch between tabs. Located within the searching preferences, this feature is a boon for those juggling extensive virtual libraries, allowing seamless navigation without losing context.

The update also improves the accuracy of page counts for fixed‑layout EPUB files, ensuring the pages column reflects the true length of your titles. Additionally, the metadata downloader has been fine‑tuned to ignore extraneous spaces around the colon separator when pasting ASINs or ISBNs, streamlining the import process.

In terms of stability, the release addresses several critical bugs. It resolves an SSL certificate loading issue that surfaced on the newly launched Fedora 44, and it eliminates incorrect search match offsets in the internal e‑book viewer when handling text containing non‑BMP Unicode characters.

Analiză: By tightening compatibility with Fedora 44 and correcting Unicode handling, Calibre reinforces its reputation as a robust, cross‑platform solution, reassuring developers and users alike that the software remains reliable in diverse operating environments.

The bulk metadata dialog now allows the backspace key to function in number input boxes even when set to undefined, and the content server now properly applies null metadata when serving book files.

Calibre, the long‑standing open‑source e‑book management suite launched in 2006 by Kovid Goyal, has evolved into a comprehensive platform that empowers millions of readers to organize, tag, and curate vast virtual libraries. Its robust feature set includes a built‑in editor, a versatile viewer, and the ability to convert between nearly every e‑book format—EPUB, MOBI, AZW3, PDF, TXT, KEPUB, and more.

In January, Calibre introduced the brand‑new “Bookshelf” view (version 9.0), a visual overhaul that mimics a real wooden shelf, complete with book spines that adjust in size to reflect actual page counts. The layout offers adjustable fonts and dynamic spine widths, giving users a more tactile and intuitive way to browse their collections.

Additionally, an optional AI module now lets users right‑click any item and choose “Discuss selected book with AI.” This chat interface can connect to popular cloud services such as OpenAI or operate entirely offline through local models via LM Studio or other OpenAI‑compatible providers.
