Brandon Sanderson and Brotherwise Jogos have officially launched the Kickstarter campaign for War of Roshar, a new strategy board game. According to a report by Jacob Kienlen for IGN, Sanderson had been calling this project “the big one” in the leadup to the campaign, and fans appear to agree—more than $1 million has already been pledged with 23 days remaining.

War for Roshar joins a growing lineup of Cosmere board games developed in collaboration with Brotherwise. IGN had an exclusive first look at the game earlier this year, describing it as a massive tabletop war game that balances strategic analysis with abstract gameplay. The theme is rooted deeply in Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive series and features art from more than 30 different artists.

Several backing options are available for those interested in supporting the project. The featured pledge tier, called Fifth Ideal at $295, includes the base game, the Champions Expansion, 3D components, custom card sleeves, and wooden tokens. Backers also receive several miniatures for the Cosmere RPG, including Mistborn figures from Era 1 and Era 2 to accompany the upcoming expansion of that game.

For those uninterested in the additional add-ons for the Cosmere RPG, four other tiers offer variations of these items. Those seeking just the base game can pledge $90 to receive access to the retail version as soon as it ships.

The campaign lists an estimated delivery date of November 2027, though this may vary depending on shipping location. Sanderson has a reputation for delivering high-quality products on time across his crowdfunding projects.

This marks far from the first crowdfunded success for Sanderson. Earlier this year, he launched a massive campaign for Hoid’s Storybook Collection that raised more than $11 million. IGN’s Jordan Comstock went hands-on with those books after they arrived and expressed no regrets about backing the project.

Prior to that effort, Brotherwise initially funded the Cosmere RPG via kickstarter back in 2024, raising $15 million. While War for Roshar has begun strongly, it remains to be seen whether it will become Sanderson’s most successful crowdfunding campaign of all time within his Cosmere universe.
