Players in the world of Lordran may soon find things getting even darker without the quirky, sometimes-helpful notes left by fellow gamers. Developer FromSoftware has announced it is temporarily shutting down the servers for Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 over an unspecified issue.
“Due to a server issue, the game servers for the following titles will be temporarily unavailable on all platforms,” the RPG studio tweeted earlier today before naming Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3.
While the shutdown is not expected to be permanent, FromSoftware has not told series fans exactly when online play will be restored. That presumably means PvP invasions, summon signs and in-game messages designed to troll players off cliffs are unavailable for the time being.

“We will provide updates once we have information regarding the server restoration time. We apologize for the inconvenience,” the studio added. Hopefully players have stocked up on Estus Flasks at least.
This is not the first time the Dark Souls trilogy has had to contend with server problems. In 2022, Bandai Namco took the servers for all three Dark Souls games offline due to a security vulnerability affecting Dark Souls 3, and the threequel went dark again a few months later.
FromSoftware’s next game, The Duskbloods – the one featuring jetpacks, vampires and a cute bird creature – has not been any luckier either. The multiplayer-focused title’s first network test had to be taken offline early due to similarly vague “server issues,” and more recently FromSoftware pushed its Switch 2 exclusive into next year.
“While development of The Duskbloods is at the final adjustment stage, we have made the decision to move the launch window to 2027,” the developer tweeted this week. “We apologise to players who have been kindly awaiting the release of this title and thank you for your patience and support.”
