Link already has a somewhat complicated relationship with growing up in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (currently $60 on Amazon). But a glitch described on Reddit gives the transition between his younger and older selves an unintentionally creepy twist. Instead of transforming as intended, the hero reportedly takes on a bizarrely distorted appearance during certain cutscenes.

According to the Reddit post, the glitch involves a technique known as a sequence break. This allows players to bypass the intended progression of a game and access content earlier than they normally would. In this case, young Link manages to reach sections of the game meant for his adult counterpart. During certain cutscenes, the game appears to awkwardly merge the two versions of Link, producing a rather disturbing result. The screenshot below shows what that looks like:

Exactly what happens in the game to produce this twisted version of Link remains unclear. (Image source: Reddit)
A separate Reddit post also featured an image showing the glitch in reverse, with adult Link appearing in a section intended for his younger self. However, that image has since been deleted. It’s worth noting that the screenshot’s authenticity hasn’t been verified, and it’s still unclear exactly how the sequence break was triggered. On Reddit, the bizarre sight has mostly been met with laughter. Many users have compared the distorted Link to a character from the stop-motion comedy series Robot Chicken, with some initially mistaking the image for an actual screenshot from the show.
