PlatinumGames is signaling that Bayonetta may return to her own spotlight soon, with studio boss Atsushi Inaba teasing a strong desire to keep developing the iconic witch. Speaking to Japan’s Famitsu and later translated by Video Game Chronicle (VGC), Inaba acknowledged that while he could not announce anything concrete at this time, the studio remains “very eager to keep [Bayonetta] around,” offering fans cautious optimism ahead of what many hope will be a Bayonetta 4.
The comments arrive as enthusiasts continue to digest Bayonetta’s most recent appearance in 2023’s Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon, a prequel that reimagined the character for a new audience. With no mainline entry since, Inaba’s remarks suggest PlatinumGames is weighing its next move for the franchise rather than resting on past laurels.
A Studio Eager to Expand Bayonetta’s World
In his Famitsu interview, Inaba laid out the studio’s ambitions plainly. “PlatinumGames has a strong desire to further develop the character of Bayonetta and expand her world,” he said, adding, “Please look forward to seeing what form that takes in the future.” The phrasing deliberately avoids committing to a specific project or timeline, but it marks one of the clearest indications yet that the studio intends to keep investing in the franchise.
The sentiment was echoed by Shift Up CEO Hyung-tae Kim, who joined the interview to promote the upcoming Stellar Blade crossover and Bayonetta collaboration. Kim expressed enthusiasm for extending the series well into the future, joking that PlatinumGames should carry the franchise through “Bayonetta 10.” He also teased that more information would surface soon, urging fans patiently: “so everyone please go home quickly.”

A Franchise at a Crossroads
The prospect of Bayonetta returning is something of a double-edged sword. The character remains deeply beloved by fans, yet the last mainline entry damaged much of that goodwill over some widely criticized narrative choices. In an attempt to push beyond the traditional format, the studio delivered Bayonetta Origins, which emerged as an inspired prequel and reintroduced the witch to new players. However, there has been little concrete movement on a follow-up since.
The franchise’s recent history has also been marked by turbulence. Back in 2022, series creator Hideki Kamiya revealed that a fourth mainline game was already in development, but he departed the studio roughly a year later. PlatinumGames subsequently underwent major restructuring, with several other prominent names leaving alongside him.

The worst-case scenario for Bayonetta’s future is that her world becomes relegated to crossovers and guest appearances rather than full entries. That path could include her upcoming Stellar Blade appearance or the character’s addition to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, opportunities that keep her visible but do not advance a standalone story.
What PlatinumGames Is Working On
Meanwhile, PlatinumGames’ own lineup continues to shift. The studio’s next title is an adaptation of the critically acclaimed comic, a project it took over development for from Black Forest after being re-revealed in June 2026. That game currently has no release window attached.

The combination of Inaba’s comments and Kim’s enthusiasm has energized a fanbase hungry for direction. Community reaction has been cautiously hopeful, with many hoping the studio can rebuild trust after recent missteps while delivering a Bayonetta 4 worthy of the character’s legacy.
Looking Ahead
No official release window or project announcement accompanies these remarks, leaving fans to await further details. Until then, the strongest signal is that PlatinumGames intends to keep developing Bayonetta rather than letting her fade into cameo appearances. As Inaba put it, players should simply look forward to seeing what form the character’s future takes.
For now, enthusiasts can only cross their fingers for a proper return and hope that the studio’s stated ambition translates into a game that recaptures the magic of Bayonetta at her best.
