Battlefield 6 has collaborated with Mass Effect before, and the last time that the military shooter did so, it was shortly after publisher EA gutted BioWare in 2025. To say it felt in bad taste at the time is an understatement. Recently, fans discovered that Battlefield 6 was again seemingly going to add a handful of Mass Effect cosmetics to the game, presumably for N7 Day, BioWare’s annual celebration of its sci-fi RPG series. Now, it appears that the previously locked cosmetics have been removed from the game entirely following the announcement that EA is shutting down the studio.

The cosmetics included several N7 logos in patches and on weapons, as well as a charm of the Normandy, Commander Shepard’s ship in the original trilogy. At some point after the news of BioWare’s closure, these items were removed from Battlefield 6‘s in-game store with no explanation. We’ve reached out to EA for comment on the situation and will update this story if we hear back.

Odds are someone at Battlefield Studios or EA had the good sense to realize that releasing something Mass Effect-related right after the company had uprooted the lives of the people who made those games would have been a PR nightmare, especially if they planned to release them on N7 Day, a day when fans and the studio typically celebrated the nearly 20-year-old series. Though some fans say they still would have wanted these items as a way of remembering the studio and its games, I can’t imagine it would have been worth the stink it would have caused so soon after the closure of BioWare.
Still, while someone may have yanked this off the assembly line, I can’t imagine that EA’s good judgement is going to last forever. In all this mess, it’s been reported that Amazon’s Mass Effect TV series is still in the works, just one example of EA continuing to profit from BioWare’s world while the people who made these games have been kicked to the curb without a job and left unable to finish Mass Effect: Universe, the fifth game in the series and one they’d spent years working on. If EA is still putting out Mass Effect projects now that BioWare is gone, what’s to stop the company and its private equity overlords from finding other ways to drag the corpse of BioWare around? Maybe we’ll see Mass Effect skins in Fortnite to tie in to the release of the show, or maybe EA will just keep raking in the cash from the still-running BioWare merch store featuring the studio’s characters and iconography.
For now, it’s probably in EA’s best interest to cancel any N7 Day plans and pretend none of this happened, but make no mistake, these ghouls are just waiting for enough time to pass that the general public forgets what has happened so it can get back to selling you N7-branded guns and t-shirts.
