A newly unveiled poster for Avengers: Doomsday has reignited speculation about one of the film’s most closely guarded secrets, as Marvel Studios highlighted three enigmatic figures known colloquially as the “Latverian Witches.” The artwork was revealed at Comic-Con Málaga on October 3, arriving just in time for Halloween and offering fans another puzzle piece to decode before the film’s December release.
The poster depicts Doctor Doom standing at the base of a grand staircase, presumably within Latveria, flanked by three witch-like characters each dressed in distinct colors. While Marvel has revealed little official information about these figures beyond their mysterious designation, the imagery immediately prompted widespread fan theorizing about who they might be and what role they will play in Doctor Doom’s plans.
The Identity of the Latverian Witches
The three witches appear to serve as key allies in Doctor Doom’s grand scheme within Avengers: Doomsday, though their presence raises more questions than answers. Given Marvel’s extensive comic book history, it seems unlikely these characters are entirely new creations rather than figures audiences have encountered before in some form.
The magical corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe offers several plausible candidates who could fill this mysterious role. Doctor Strange, Clea, and Scarlet Witch stand out as natural fits, particularly since fans remain uncertain about what these characters have been doing since their last appearances on screen.
The new poster for Avengers: Doomsday shows Doctor Doom at the bottom of a grand staircase, presumably in Latveria. Behind him, he’s flanked by three witches, each of whom wears a different color. While people colloquially call these mysterious characters Latverian Witches, Marvel has otherwise revealed little about them.

Additional possibilities emerge when considering the broader MCU landscape. Bruce Banner could potentially take on a magical or transformed role, especially since Doctor Doom kidnaps him at the end of Avengers: Endgame Encore. Sylvie from Loki would also make narrative sense given her established connections to the collapsing multiverse storyline.
Broader Speculation and Fan Theories
While less likely than the primary candidates, some fans have pointed toward characters already introduced in recent Disney+ series as potential Latverian Witches. Agatha All Along has brought figures like Agatha Harkness, Jennifer Kale, and even Death into the fold, each of whom possesses magical credentials that could justify their inclusion in Doctor Doom’s entourage.
The poster’s deliberate vagueness appears to be a calculated move by Marvel Studios, designed to sustain interest and fuel conversation during the critical months leading up to release. By showcasing these characters without providing context, the studio has ensured that fans will continue dissecting every frame of promotional material for clues about the film’s plot.
Fans are unlikely to receive definitive answers from Marvel before the movie reaches theaters, as the studio maintains its tradition of withholding major spoilers until opening weekend. This strategy guarantees ongoing speculation and engagement throughout the campaign period.
Looking Ahead
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, giving audiences just over two months to anticipate its arrival. Until then, the true identities of the Latverian Witches will remain one of the film’s biggest mysteries, with fans eagerly analyzing every promotional detail for hints about how these characters fit into Doctor Doom’s plans.
The poster serves as a reminder that Marvel Studios is building significant intrigue around its upcoming blockbuster, using carefully controlled reveals to maintain momentum. As Halloween passes and the countdown continues, audiences will be watching closely to see whether any additional details emerge before the film’s premiere.
