Open-world title Atmosfar has announced an early access launch date of 29th October, alongside a new trailer that showcases its floating islands, airships, and aerial exploration. Developed by Apog, the studio behind tycoon management game Airport CEO, the flying-island adventure invites players to investigate “the fate of humanity’s final outpost” on an alien planet, with two distinct classes of airship at their disposal.

The announcement trailer highlights the game’s central fantasy: piloting vessels through cloud-streaked skies above a world built from scattered floating landmasses. Early access will introduce players to two explorable regions, with further content promised as development continues over the coming months.

A Dual Airship System

Atmosfar centres its gameplay around two broad varieties of airship, each serving different roles in exploration and survival. The first is the Wasp, a compact hovercraft available initially in three distinct variants. According to the developers’ Steam page, players can “deploy a foldable camp with the Utility Wasp, airlift heavy scrap with the Cargo Wasp or stun your enemies with the Striker Wasp,” emphasising that bringing “the right Wasp for the job” is key to success.

The second vessel type is considerably larger: the Cloud Cruiser, described as a mobile airbase featuring landing pads, a hangar, and a lounge where players can gather with up to three co-op companions. The relationship between the nimble Wasps and the sprawling Cloud Cruiser draws comparisons to the symbiotic pairing of small and large submersibles in Subnautica.

“Deploy a foldable camp with the Utility Wasp, airlift heavy scrap with the Cargo Wasp or stun your enemies with the Striker Wasp. It’s all about bringing the right Wasp for the job.”

A Visually Distinct Sky World

The floating islands themselves have drawn particular attention in previews, with their rounded mountains, forest canopies, and rocky undersides arranged to sit naturally among layered cloud formations. While the aesthetic may not be radically unlike other entries in the genre, the presentation has been noted as one of the more appealing takes on the flying-island concept.

The game’s premise tasks players with uncovering what happened to humanity’s last outpost on an alien world, though much of the appeal appears rooted in the freedom of aerial travel and base-building rather than a tightly scripted narrative.

Looking Ahead

Atmosfar will remain in early access for at least nine months following its 29th October launch. The developers have indicated that this window could be extended if additional content is added along the way, with plans to introduce a third and final region, a fourth Wasp variant, and expanded building options for Cloud Cruisers over time.

“The game will remain in Early Access for at least 9 months, however this period could be extended with more added content if enough Vagabonds join us on the flight,” the studio said, using “Vagabonds” as its term for players. The announcement arrives amid a broader wave of aerial open-world titles that have sought to capture the freedom popularised by recent genre standouts, positioning Atmosfar among a growing cohort of developers exploring sky-bound sandboxes.
