Disney has greenlit a new animated Artemis Fowl series set to air on Disney Channel and Disney+, author Eoin Colfer announced at the 25 Years of Artemis Fowl panel during New York Comic Con 2026.
Colfer will serve as executive producer on the project, with Disney saying he’ll bring “his creative vision to dig deeper into the characters and lore of the beloved book series that is celebrating its 25th anniversary of the first book this year.” Joining him in the executive producing role are Ben Juwono of Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur and Colleen Evanson of DuckTales.

“I’m proud and delighted to be part of the formidable team that is putting the Artemis Fowl animation on screen,” Colfer said in a statement. “Everyone is so talented and so positive that I feel certain the fairy world is in excellent hands.”

The animated series has no release date yet. When it arrives, it won’t be the first attempt to bring the property to Disney+. In 2020, Disney released a live-action film of the same name that drew poor reactions from both fans and critics.
According to review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the straight-to-streaming film earned an 8% rating from critics and 19% from audiences. It starred Ferdia Shaw as the title character, alongside Lara McDonnell, Josh Gadd, and Michael Rouse.
IGN gave the film a 4/10 review, calling it “an empty science fantasy tale with forgettable characters and an uninspired story.” The outlet noted that while the 2020 film attempt didn’t succeed, the new animated series hopes to do so.
The action-adventure fantasy series follows 13-year-old genius Artemis Fowl as he “uncovers an underground world of armed and dangerous — and surprisingly high-tech — fairies as he launches a plan to capture one and steal its magic to heal his dying mom and save his family,” according to a Disney description.
The original Artemis Fowl book was published in 2001. The rest of Colfer’s stories in the universe have sold more than 35 million copies worldwide.

Elsewhere at NYCC 2026, IGN also showcased new looks at Godzilla Minus Zero and Blade Runner 2099, and confirmed that more Naruto was on the way.
