Arc Studios’ PvE extraction shooter Arc Raiders will open its doors to everyone during a free-to-play weekend running from Oct. 8 at 5 a.m. ET until Oct. 12 at 4 a.m. ET, coinciding with the launch of its Frozen Trail update on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation. The time-limited trial grants full access to the game across all platforms, allowing players to explore as much as they want during the window while Embark Studios rolls out one of the title’s most substantial updates yet.

The free-to-play weekend arrives at a pivotal moment for Arc Raiders. On Oct. 8, the Frozen Trail update goes live, followed shortly by a PvE matchmaking beta test that delivers what many in the community have been requesting: a more relaxed experience geared toward players who prefer cooperative play over intense extraction pressure. The timing ensures that newcomers can jump into the updated game at exactly the moment its newest content becomes available.

A Full Access Trial Meets a Content-Rich Update

Although the trial is time-limited, it does not restrict players to any portion of the experience. Anyone who logs in during the window receives complete access to Arc Raiders, meaning they can test everything from core gameplay loops to the newly added features without committing to a purchase.

The Frozen Trail update itself brings a wide array of new content to complement the free-to-play push. Players can expect a brand-new map, a Battle Pass system, a frigate patrol vessel for exploration and combat, several new enemies and challenges, weapon modifications, a camera gadget, and an assortment of weapon skins. These additions represent one of the most feature-heavy patches since launch.

Arc Raiders still has a fairly active player base, even if concurrent player count numbers have dropped quite a bit since launch. The free-to-play weekend coinciding with the launch of the Frozen Trail update is sure to bring people back to the game in droves.

Addressing Community Concerns Over Cheating

The generous nature of the trial has also reignited concerns about cheating, a problem that has plagued Arc Raiders since its early access launch. By essentially opening the floodgates to a massive influx of new players, the free-to-play weekend could attract a corresponding wave of malicious actors seeking to exploit others.

Embark Studios has invested significant effort into keeping cheaters at bay, though developers have acknowledged that maintaining control remains difficult. The Frozen Trail update is not expected to include additional anti-cheat measures, meaning the studio will rely on its existing protections during the free-to-play weekend. Community members are hoping those safeguards prove sufficient under the increased pressure.

Looking Ahead

Arc Raiders remains available across PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, with the free-to-play window offering an ideal opportunity for lapsed players to return and new audiences to discover the game. As the Oct. 8 launch approaches, all eyes will be on whether the combination of fresh content and open access can revitalize the player base without compromising the integrity of online matches.
