According to a report by Chris Reed, a senior commerce editor at IGN, preorders for Apple’s iPhone Duo are now live as of this morning, ahead of an official release date of October 23. But timing matters: even those who preorder now won’t receive the device until late January 2027, while anyone who waits faces months-long delays—unless they’re willing to shell out nearly $5,000 on eBay.

What makes the iPhone Duo different?
The foldable phone marks the most drastic change in form factor Apple has ever introduced to its smartphone lineup. Shaped roughly like a passport, it consists of two ultra-thin panels that fold together into a 5.4-inch front screen; unfolding it triggers an animation and reveals a wide 7.6-inch display about the size of an iPad mini.
Apple has adapted its iOS software for the new shape as well. The dock now sits in a vertical column along the right edge of the display rather than across the bottom, making icons easier to reach with the wide form factor—for right-handed users, anyway. People can run apps full-screen or place two side by side, and the interface adapts however the device is folded.
The inner screen uses wide-angle OLEDs with a 3,000-nit peak brightness and an Apple “nano-texture display” that the company says helps minimize the look of any crease. That large, portable screen could make the phone excellent device for gaming.
Price, accessories, and repairs
Despite what Reed describes as difficulty meeting demand, the device isn’t cheap: it costs at least $1,999.99. Owners will likely want an iPhone Duo case to guard against damage, and should consider AppleCare for coverage against theft and accidents—because repairs can cost $1,499.99.
