Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends is bringing Capcom’s legendary fighting game franchise into the Outlands on Tuesday, September 22 at 10am PT / 1pm ET. The highly anticipated collaboration will transform the battle royale with eight Iconic skins, a Mythic Hadouken melee cosmetic, a fully remixed Olympus map, and a brand-new Wildcard Takeover mode that turns the first-person shooter into an all-out brawl.
The crossover hurricane-kicks its way into Apex Legends on September 22, bringing high-energy fighting game culture to Respawn’s popular title. Players can expect special skins, a decked-out point of interest, and plenty of additional cosmetics available through the Reward Shop as part of the Street Fighter 6 collaboration.
Skins, Mythic Cosmetics, and More
Players will have the chance to collect eight Iconic Skins in the Reward Shop that transform their Legends into characters from Capcom’s beloved fighting game franchise. The lineup pairs Sparrow with Ryu, Alter with Chun-Li, Bangalore with Elena, Mirage with Luke, Gibraltar with Akuma, Wattson with Cammy, Caustic with Blanka, and Pathfinder with Dhalsim. An additional Epic Skin transforms Lifeline as Li-Fen, Chun-Li’s protege in Street Fighter 6’s World Tour story mode.
The art team put careful thought into matching each Legend to its fighting game counterpart based on personality, playstyle, and silhouette. Alisa Rastorgueva, Apex Legends’ art director, shared insights from a closed media session about the design process behind the skins.
“We’re really thinking about personality, playstyle, silhouette when matching our Apex Legends with their Street Fighter counterparts. Sparrow felt the closest to Ryu’s grisly self in Street Fighter 6 specifically, and we really wanted to push the muscle definition for this skin.”
Alisa Rastorgueva, Art Director, Apex Legends
Rastorguva also noted that Gibraltar’s larger size provided an ideal canvas for Akuma, while Wattson’s operations complement Cammy’s fighting style. She highlighted Caustic’s canisters as a particularly proud detail, featuring electric eels hidden within the design.

A Remixed Olympus and New Melee Cosmetic
Beyond character skins, eight new Legendary Street Fighter 6-themed weapon skins are available for the R-99, EVA-8, Flatline, Volt, Scout, Mozambique, Sentinel, and Peacekeeper. Other goodies include two Skydive Emotes (one featuring a Tatsumaki), Holosprays, stickers covering Street Fighter 6’s base roster, badges, trackers, and frames.
To immerse players in the spirit of the collaboration, Respawn has prepared a new Hadouken Universal Melee cosmetic that includes a matching Deathbox. This allows players to throw out a Hadouken projectile during battle—though they should beware the Dark Hadouken.

Olympus is receiving a full Street Fighter makeover, with the entire area decked out in bright colors, graffiti, giant Blanka-chan balloons, and silver statues of the eight featured characters. Punch Trucks are scattered throughout the map, allowing players to beat them up using melee attacks to earn Fight Gauge tokens.
Pathfinder’s Fight Night has been transformed into Luke’s Gym, featuring arcade cabinets, Street Fighter 6-branded punching bags, a weight rack, and Luke’s signature blue and orange colors. A massive screen surrounding the area displays Ryu and Chun-Li facing off throughout the match.
“Remixing Olympus for this takeover was all about immersing players in fighting game culture. Building off what we learned on maps like Night City E-District, we wanted Olympus to feel like a living Street Fighter stage. For the Street Fighter 6 collaboration especially, we kept thinking of how we could inject that high-energy arcade feel directly into the map.”
Eduardo Agostini, World Director, Apex Legends
Apex KO Wildcard Takeover Mode
The collaboration also features a Wildcard Takeover called Apex KO that transforms the first-person shooter into an all-out brawl. Rather than firing bullets at opponents, players use Street Fighter skills to punch and kick their way to victory. Respawn cleaned up the game’s melee system to allow fluid combos that fill your Fighter Gauge.

In this mode, players select one of four fighters—Ryu, Chun-Li, Dhalsim, or Akuma—before entering the match. If no choice is made, a fighter will be selected automatically. Upon entering Fighter Form, abilities are replaced with skills suited to each Street Fighter character.
Ryu gains access to Shin Shoryuken, Dash, and Hadouken, while Chun-Li receives double-jump capabilities, Kikouken, Kikosho, and faster melee attack speed. Dhalsim benefits from increased melee range, Teleportation, and Yoga Sunburst, while Akuma can unleash Gohadouken, Shun Goku Satsu, Raging Demon, and Demon Mode.
The final round, titled the Showdown, allows downed or respawning players to rejoin the fight until one squad remains standing. Chris Ruvolo, senior technical game designer for Apex Legends, explained the design philosophy behind translating fighting game mechanics into a battle royale format.
“At its core, Apex is built on competition. Translating Street Fighter 6’s mechanics into a third-person Battle Royale experience was about finding those synergies in their shared competitive DNA. Balancing the four Fighter Gear kits was such a fun opportunity to give players highly expressive tools like Hadokens, wall-runs and Yoga Teleports without compromising Apex’s core gameplay and competitive integrity.”
