Apex Legends is adding a new loot cache and, terrifyingly, akimbo Wingmans in Season 31. The new loot areas are called Strongholds, and similarly to past season’s IMC Armories, will hold high-quality, high-tier weapons and armor to lure in teams.

On top of the changes to Ranked and a rework for Crypto, Season 31 is mixing things up by adding another akimbo weapon. Players will soon be set loose with not one, but two Wingmans to terrorize the Outlands with.

The catch is that, like Mythic Bins, Strongholds take a while to open and trigger an audio alarm to alert nearby players. To offset the obvious deathtrap this presents, the Stronghold will also spawn cover and hardlight elements for teams to work with as they secure their loot.

Connor Monahan, BR Systems Lead at Respawn Entertainment, explained the reasoning behind adding another new loot cache to the game, as “Strongholds directly address recent loot inflation by streamlining mid-game map clutter into one highly contested focal point.”
Wingman Akimbo
This is getting out of hand, now there are two of them! (Image via Respawn Entertainment).
Being triple, or even double, tapped with a Wingman is a universal experience in Apex Legends, but now one of the game’s most iconic guns is getting an akimbo mode. Since dual-wielding weapons have been a bit of a trend in Apex recently (the P2020 and Mozambique were upgraded seasons ago), it makes sense that the Wingman would eventually receive a similar treatment.
The Wingman will be tempered slightly in this new mode with a burst-fire option, which will make it harder to aim. As Casey O’Brien, Weapons Designer at Respawn Entertainment, explained, “historically, the single Wingman has been a daunting, high-skill weapon, and this burst-fire option allows casual players to enjoy its power fantasy while still preserving the legendary skill floor that makes it iconic.”
Still, it’s hard not to live in fear of what two Wingmans at once will be like when Season 31 goes live on Nov. 4, 2026.
