AMD and Xbox have announced plans to bring FSR 4.1 to the ROG Xbox Ally X and Xbox Series X|S consoles at some point in the future. Until now, Sony hardware has dominated the upscaling conversation with its QSSR technology, but Xbox now appears poised to enter the race with its own offering.

FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) 4.1 is AMD’s upscaling technology, which renders games at a lower resolution before using machine learning (ML)-powered technology to enhance visual fidelity and boost performance.
In the video above, AMD GM Jack Huynh announced plans to bring the updated FSR technology to Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards, alongside plans to roll out FSR 4.1 to various Gorgon and Strix Ryzen 9 processors. Еще importantly, he invited Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet to the stage to share the news that FSR 4.1 is coming to both Xbox Series consoles and will be optimised for the ROG Xbox Ally X / X20 handhelds.
Van Vliet also shared details on their continued partnership with AMD to power the upcoming Project Helix, which will leverage “FSR Diamond to power what comes next”.
“Today, we’re excited to take another step forward together with FSR4.1 coming to Xbox. Now, we’ve worked very closely with AMD to optimize this technology, giving developers another powerful tool for great performance and visual quality for players. Now, whether you’re playing on an Xbox Ally handheld, as well as coming soon to Xbox Series S and X consoles, and this is just the beginning. Our teams are continuing to work together across hardware and software. And there’s even more ahead with Project Helix, leveraging FSR Diamond to power what comes next.”

There is no timeline for when the technology will actually begin implementation on current-generation hardware, but there is considerable excitement over what FSR 4.1 can do for the Xbox Series S and Xbox handheld experiences in particular.
