The developers behind Alien: Isolation 2 are committing to a full physical edition, and have shared even more details about the highly-anticipated survival horror sequel.

In a recent developer Q&A posted today (below), developers from Creative Assembly shed even more light on their shadowy follow-up to 2014’s fan-favorite horror game. When asked if the sequel would get a physical edition, the devs simply said “yes” and explained that “staying true to the analogue nature of Alien is one of our pillars.”

Throughout the video, the Creative Assembly team reiterated that so much of their inspiration comes from Ridley Scott’s seminal sci-fi classic from 1979, naturally, which influenced their decision to release a physical boxed version of the game and to keep the focus on one ever present, highly intelligent and always frightening Xenomorph.

Confirmation of a physical release comes months after Sony announced plans to end production of new PlayStation discs in 2028 – a decision that led to heated backlash from players, physical distributors and consumer rights groups.

The only wrinkle is that Alien: Isolation 2 doesn’t have a release date at the moment. Should it release any later than February, 2028, PlayStation players probably won’t be able to get their hands on a proper disc – though the game is also launching across PC, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S.

Elsewhere in the dev vlog, creative director Al Hope explained how the team is expanding on the original game’s famously tight level design. “You have the interior spaces which feel claustrophobic and the player feels trapped, which is super familiar to Isolation fans. But we also have exteriors as well where the creature is now learning to adapt and hunt in these open spaces,” Hope said.

“I really love the idea that the player will feel trapped and claustrophobic in the interiors and actually really want to get outside. Once they manage to do that, after that initial relief and sense of a small victory, they will start very slowly to feel really exposed and vulnerable and actually quite like to go back inside again. And really, playing on that roller coaster and see-saw of emotion and motivation – that’s a big part of what Alien: Isolation 2 is.”

James Green, lead game designer, also said roughly “a quarter to a third of the team worked on the original,” while all new developers helped to bring a fresh perspective onboard. And, somehow, the Xenomorph is “even more intelligent” this time; scarily capable of using the extreme climate to hide and hunt you.

Cyberpunk 2 might try to revive Cyberpunk 2077’s online ambitions, as a new CD Projekt Red job listing is looking for someone familiar with “multijogador network architecture.”

As spotted by Cheap Happens, the role-playing powerhouse is currently looking to hire a lead quest programmer for its upcoming open-world sequel. Buried away at the bottom of the job listing, under the “Nice To Haves” section, the studio asks for an “understanding of multijogador network architecture and client-server synchronization for game state/ quests.”

The multijogador mention is by no means confirmation that Cyberpunk 2 – or whatever it ends up being called – will have co-op and other online modes, but it’s definitely something CD Projekt Red is looking into. And it certainly makes sense, too.

Once upon a time, Cyberpunk 2077 was intended to receive a multijogador portion sometime after its initial launch. Of course, at the time, the shaky state of the game’s development meant that was no longer feasible and CD Projekt Red instead said multijogador would come as its own “triple-A release.” Eventually, the famed studio realised it simply had to focus on ensuring the base game was stable enough on its own, and shelved those online ambitions.

A few years back, Cyberpunk 2077’s senior quest designer, Philipp Weber, told Eurogamer the company was “focusing on bringing online into all of our franchises one day” by “building an online technology that can be seamlessly integrated into development of our future games.”

Mais recently, in 2024, CD Projekt CEO Adam Badowski said the team were “considering” multijogador elements for the Cyberpunk sequel back when the game was still in its early concept phases.

We don’t know much else about the neon-drenched follow-up, but CDPR has been keeping series fans full and fed with continual updates to Cyberpunk 2077. Earlier this week, the game got an update celebrating the debut of Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2 on Netflix – everything from dual-wielding to cross-platform mods were added to the six-year-old game.
