At New York Comic Con 2026, which opened today, indie publisher AHOY Comics unveiled a portion of its upcoming title slate for 2027, headlined by a new one-shot that lampoons DC’s Absolute Batman. Titled Absolutely the Wrong Earth and created by writer Tom Peyer and artist Jamal Igle, the oversized 40-page special is scheduled to arrive in comic shops on April 7, 2027. The book extends AHOY’s acclaimed superhero satire franchise known as The Wrong Earth, adding yet another twisted reflection of its signature heroes into an already crowded multiverse.

A Darker Hero Takes the Hit

The new one-shot drops Peyer and Igle back into their long-running gag universe, where parallel versions of the same hero collide across divergent worlds. In this case, the target is Absolute Batman, DC’s grim, brooding take on its caped crusader, filtered through AHOY’s irreverent comedic lens. According to the studio, the book is billed as a “hilarious and action-packed oversized 40-page one-shot” that will reach readers when it hits stores in early April.

The creative pairing of Peyer and Igle has become something of an institution within indie comics satire. Peyer, best known for his work on Hourman, brings a wry script sensibility to the project, while Igle—the creator of Molly Danger and artist of Dudley Datson and the Forever Machine—provides the visual punch that has defined the series’ look.

The Legacy of The Wrong Earth

Absolute the Wrong Earth is far from the first outing in AHOY’s superhero spoof. The franchise began as the publisher’s very first title, THE WRONG EARTH, which introduced readers to two parallel heroes inhabiting different worlds: Earth-Alpha’s bright and campy Dragonflyman alongside Earth-Omega’s dark and gritty Dragonfly. That concept reportedly “blew the multiverse concept wide open,” spawning a string of acclaimed follow-ups.

The series has since expanded into numerous titles featuring Dragonfly, Dragonflyman, and their kid sidekick(s) Stinger, including DRAGONFLY VS. DRAGONFLYMAN, THE WRONG EARTH: NIGHT & DAY, a run of THE WRONG EARTH one-shots, THE WRONG EARTH: WE COULD BE HEROES, and THE WRONG EARTH: DEAD RINGERS. The new April release is being positioned as the latest in that lineage rather than its finale.

A Broader 2027 Slate

The Absolute Batman parody sits alongside several other forthcoming titles AHOY teased at NYCC, underscoring the publisher’s appetite for genre-bending one-shots. Among them is Kindergarten Gulag by writer Mark Russell and artist Mauricet, a darkly comedic tale following Igby, a man who wakes as the sole prisoner in a jail run by five young, unsettling children debating whether to kill him. That book lands January 27, 2027.

Russell and Mauricet reunite here after their one-shot Thanksgiving, which IGN described as “hilarious but disturbingly relevant.” Also arriving is Corduroy Road from writer Eric Palicki and artist Chris Peterson, a Chicago-set mystery pairing a private investigator and monster killer with paranormal violence in the tradition of Hack/Slash and Something Is Killing the Children; it ships January 6, 2027.

Rounding out the preview is Dragonproof by Palicki and artist Giulia Lalli, an action-packed fantasy aimed at adult readers who grew up on Buffy and Gargoyles. The story follows Ashleigh Cole, who stumbles upon a dying dragon marked with bullet wounds and U.S. military tattoos before beginning to exhibit her own dragonlike traits. Dragonproof is slated for early 2027 and is set to begin funding soon on Kickstarter.

Fans looking to secure copies of the upcoming titles can place preorders through their local comic shops, while those interested in Dragonproof should watch for its crowdfunding launch.

Looking Ahead

The earliest of AHOY’s 2027 offerings—Corduroy Road and Kindergarten Gulag—are set to arrive in late January, with the Absolute Batman parody landing in April. No additional details regarding cover art, pricing, or further installments in The Wrong Earth franchise have been disclosed at this time, leaving readers to anticipate what Peyer and Igle have planned for their next visit to the wrongest earth.
