After Harada’s Exit, Tekken 8 Loses Game Director Too

Tekken 8 is currently buzzing with activity, not only in terms of gameplay developments but also in the people behind the scenes.

In a significant shake‑up, legendary series figure Katsuhiro Harada departed from Bandai Namco, and now game director Kohei Ikeda has followed suit.

With two decades of experience at the publisher and a long history of shaping the franchise, Ikeda has decided that the time has come to step away from the series.

In his announcement, Ikeda reflected on his journey that began with Soulcalibur IV before transitioning to the Tekken universe, ultimately rising to the role of game director for both Tekken 7 and the forthcoming Tekken 8.

Surrounded by a cadre of passionate, exceptionally skilled mentors and colleagues, I have found that dedicating ourselves fully to the craft of game development remains one of the most treasured moments of my career.

As my tenure as Game Director draws to a close, I am reminded that the principles which have guided both myself and the Tekken Project—remaining close to our fans, fostering community engagement, and co‑creating the game with everyone—will endure unchanged.

I have passed these core values, along with the symbolic baton, to the remarkable team that will continue to shape Tekken’s tomorrow.

The title itself has faced significant challenges, with major updates frequently disrupting game balance.

Recent updates have begun to turn the tide, with new patches effectively curbing the game’s previously overzealous combat mechanics and the notorious Heat system.

In other news, Harada departed a few months ago and has since taken the helm of a fresh venture, VS Studio, under the SNK banner.
