Get ready to ditch the dreaded “Compiling Shaders” screen! Infinity Ward and Beenox have unveiled a game-changing update that promises a smoother, faster experience for PC players diving into the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta. This isn’t just about shaving off a few seconds; it’s a fundamental shift in how PC games are experienced.
Say Goodbye to Shader Hell
For years, PC gamers have endured the agonizing wait for shaders to compile – those essential instructions that tell your graphics card how to render everything you see on screen. This process is particularly frustrating because it’s a one-time event for consoles, thanks to their standardized hardware and pre-compiled assets. But starting with the Modern Warfare 4 beta, Infinity Ward is finally bringing shader pre-loading to PC!
In a detailed blog post”>blog post, the developers explained that while this technology isn’t entirely new, its implementation in Modern Warfare 4 represents a significant leap forward. The Battle.net launcher currently offers the most seamless experience during the beta, with shader pre-loading happening automatically in the background. Steam users will still encounter the “Compiling Shaders” screen initially, but subsequent launches should benefit from the pre-loaded assets.
Streamlining Updates: Fewer Restarts Ahead!
Beyond shaders, Infinity Ward is tackling another persistent PC pain point: the dreaded “Update Requires Restart” message. This often forces players to endure multiple restarts just to apply a single update, interrupting gameplay and adding unnecessary frustration.
The Modern Warfare 4 beta introduces improvements designed to minimize these interruptions. While not eliminating restarts entirely, the goal is to allow more updates to be applied seamlessly in the background, reducing the frequency with which players are forced to exit and relaunch the game. PC and PlayStation 5 users will experience this improvement immediately, while Xbox players may still encounter occasional restarts, although the developers are actively working to reduce these instances for the full release. Unfortunately, Nintendo Switch 2 users will continue to require restarts during both the beta and launch.
“While ‘Update Requires Restart’ isn’t disappearing completely, the goal is simple: fewer required restarts and fewer interruptions between you and your next match,” the developer stated.
Beta Details & System Requirements
The first leg of the Modern Warfare 4 beta kicks off tomorrow, August 21st, immediately following Call of Duty: Next, the live event showcasing much of the beta’s content. Pre-loading begins today at 9am PT / 12pm ET / 5pm BST. PC players should ensure that TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are enabled to participate.
This is a monumental step forward for PC gaming, promising a smoother, more enjoyable experience for Modern Warfare 4 players. Get ready to dive in and leave those shader compilation screens in the past!
