Forza Horizon 6 PS5 Launch Delayed, Xbox Focuses Inward

The open-world racing phenomenon that is Forza Horizon might be hitting PlayStation 5 later than initially anticipated. According to reports, the highly anticipated port of Forza Horizon 6 for Sony’s console has reportedly been pushed back, with a 2026 release now looking unlikely.

A Shift in Strategy

The news comes from Tom Warren, senior reporter at The Verge, who shared the information on X/Twitter. While Xbox hasn’t officially commented, IGN understands this to be accurate. This delay aligns with a noticeable shift in strategy by Xbox, which has been pulling back from some of its multiplatform efforts.

Recent trailers for upcoming Xbox games have noticeably absent the PS5 and Switch 2 logos (after their inclusion was previously deemed a “miss” by Xbox boss Asha Sharma). Just last month, a trailer for Halo: Campaign Evolved was reportedly pulled from Sony’s June PlayStation State of Play broadcast at the last minute. Furthermore, both Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution have now been confirmed as permanent Xbox console exclusives.

While no official announcement has been made regarding the PS5 port of Forza Horizon 6, a delay would certainly be consistent with Xbox’s renewed focus on its own consoles. The company seems determined to position its platforms as the primary destinations for its games, especially leading up to the release of Gears of War: E-Day in October.

The GTA 6 Factor

It’s worth noting that the release window is becoming increasingly crowded, especially with Rockstar Games’ GTA 6 looming large. The highly anticipated title is slated for a November launch and has strong ties to Sony and its PS5 console through marketing deals. Even a stellar game like Forza Horizon 6 might strategically avoid competing directly with such a massive release.

A Masterpiece Awaits

Whenever Forza Horizon 6 does arrive on PS5, players can expect an incredible experience. “The new standard in open-world racing is here, and it’s a gundamn masterpiece,” IGN wrote in our Forza Horizon 6 review, awarding the game a perfect score of 10/10. The delay might be disappointing for some, but the wait will undoubtedly be worth it for fans eager to experience this landmark title on PlayStation.
