Liu Cixin’s “Remembrance of Earth’s Past” trilogy, more commonly known as “The Three-Body Problem,” has captivated readers worldwide and recently found a new audience thanks to the Netflix adaptation. For those who want to experience this monumental work of science fiction in its most beautiful form, the Folio Society is releasing a stunning limited edition hardcover: “The Three-Body Problem Trilogy: Remembrance of Earth’s Past.”

A Collector’s Dream

Folio Society has partnered with artist Matt Griffin to create an unparalleled visual experience. IGN was given an exclusive first look at some of Griffin’s breathtaking artwork, which will be featured throughout this lavish edition. Prepare to be amazed by the slideshow gallery below:

Inside the Trilogy

“The Three-Body Problem Trilogy: Remembrance of Earth’s Past” collects all three novels – “The Three-Body Problem,” “The Dark Forest,” and “Death’s End” – in a single, meticulously crafted volume. In addition to Griffin’s artwork, the edition includes a brand-new introduction by Liu Cixin himself, previously unpublished in English.

Folio Society describes this limited edition as follows:

This 1344-page masterpiece features a special box design, luxurious lining, a striking frontispiece, and an original cover design. It also includes three black & white integrated title-page spreads (one for each book), and fifteen color illustrations, including three double-page spreads, all by the award-winning illustrator Matt Griffin. Bound in printed cloth with a design by Matt Griffin and blocked lettering by Steve O Connell, the limited edition features blocked endpapers on Sirio Color Dark Blue paper, a ribbon marker, printed book edges, an outer Clamshell covered in holographic blocked cloth, and a copper holographic blocked paper lining. The lining showcases real three-body simulations created by Matt Griffin using a program from MIT, for which he received special permission.

A Statement from Folio Society

“Starting with the Chinese Cultural Revolution and spanning some 18 million years into the future, Liu Cixin’s masterpiece is as broad as it is compelling,” said Folio Society Editor James Rose. “A tale of humanity’s struggle, and that of a civilization fighting for its very existence, this dares to answer the question: ‘Are we alone in the Universe?’ Beautifully and brilliantly evoked in Matt Griffin’s artwork, this is the ultimate edition of a science-fiction phenomenon. Fans of the series, anyone interested in sci-fi and hard science, and new readers alike will be awestruck by this edition.”

Availability and Price

The Three-Body Problem Trilogy: Remembrance of Earth’s Past” is priced at £550 / US $780 and will be available for preorder beginning on September 8 on the Folio Society website.

For those who have already experienced the Netflix adaptation, Jordan Hoffman’s review on IGN’s 3 Body Problem review offers valuable insights. He notes that while “3 Body Problem” successfully adapts Cixin Liu’s massive book trilogy for a wider audience, it might alienate some viewers with its far-out sci-fi concepts and fast-paced plot. While certain sequences may not resonate with everyone – the video game side story, for example, received mixed reactions – many of the performances and one particularly shocking scene make for a worthwhile adaptation of this beloved franchise.
