While lacking cutscene footage, this leak, like all the others, is plastered with watermarks promoting the “CyberLeek” token – the alleged heart of a cryptocurrency scheme believed to be driving these leaks. Another watermark doubles down on an anti-digital future manifesto, reading: “They want to take your right to resell. The peaceful route got us nowhere. This was plotted by them for years. It is time to fight now or never.”
This marks the sixth consecutive day of CyberLeek releases, a truly remarkable event in gaming history. With Rockstar’s official GTA 6 reveal just days away, exclusively on Netflix for six hours, the pressure mounts.
Legal Battles and Corporate Responses
Take-Two is pulling out all the stops to identify the perpetrators. Lawyers have issued subpoenas to X / Twitter, Microsoft, and Discord, seeking information about accounts linked to “CyberLeak.” The United States District Court for the Southern District of New York granted the Microsoft subpoena on August 21.
Xbox Chief Technical Officer Scott Van Vliet <tweeted> to address the situation, stating: “We are working closely with Take-Two and Rockstar Games to support efforts to protect creative works and intellectual property.” Discord confirmed receiving DMCA subpoenas, stating it complies with valid requests. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two have issued a public statement.
Internal Frustration and Uncertain Future
Despite the ongoing leaks, Rockstar is reportedly unaware of how these breaches occurred or who is responsible. While plans for next week’s Netflix reveal remain unchanged, Bloomberg reported internal frustration and anger within the company regarding the situation.
