Just days ago, Take-Two filed subpoenas targeting Microsoft and Discord, seeking account data that could identify the individual or group operating under the CyberLeek persona. Both companies have a deadline of September 4th to comply with these requests. The leaks themselves have been substantial, offering glimpses of protagonist Jason in action within Vice City, even showcasing playable elements like shooting the word “leek” into a wall – suggesting some level of unauthorized access to the game.
As previously reported by our team, CyberLeek has framed its actions as a fight for gamers’ rights. However, a closer look reveals a more complex situation involving a cryptocurrency scheme centered around a $CYBERLEEK meme coin. The group encouraged users to purchase this coin to “vote” for new leaks, ostensibly to fund a “secret project.” However, as Polygon reported, there’s evidence suggesting potential personal gain behind the operation.
The Telegram channel’s legitimacy has been a point of contention within the gaming community. Some Redditors have claimed that CyberLeek never officially operated a Telegram channel, and any activity attributed to it was likely the work of impersonators reposting genuine leaks. Others maintain that the Telegram and website were the only legitimate channels associated with CyberLeek. Regardless, both hubs appear to have been taken down.
It remains unclear whether the takedown is a direct result of Take-Two’s subpoenas or a separate copyright enforcement action. Eurogamer has reached out to Rockstar for comment.
